This list is primarily for anyone working directly with young people from a harm reduction perspective i.e. practitioners who seek to minimise drug-related harm by working effectively to:
- prevent the development of drug problems among young people;
- minimise the harms from drug use for young people who use drugs;
- support young people who are trying to stop using drugs.
This scope of the list includes work with parents, especially where it relates to the above.
Its primary purpose is NOT to address issues concerning generic drug education.
The main membership is likely to comprise 'tier 2 and 3' staff and others interested in the practice issues concerned with this field of work.
The group has been established because there has been a rapid increase in services for young people as a result of the government's 10 year strategy and because the evidence base for conducting high quality work is limited. Its purpose is to allow good practice to be shared and to provide an interactive forum for people to discuss the practice and policy issues that challenge
practitioners in this field on a daily basis.
