I thought I'd lost it entirely. Honestly I did.
If spiritual poetry is not what you are inclined toward, my apologies
ahead of time. My occupation seeps into everything I write.
I have had a terrible time since late October to create poetry, or
anything with spontaneity. Where it just pops in my brain.
Twice, yes, I said twice, this week alone, since "uncluttering" the
recesses of my brain, I've written incredible poetry!
I have been blessed! I wanted to share.
I wrote this poem as a result of another poem, believe it or not. A
fellow minister at one of my sister churches (we're both affiliated
with a church in Schenectady, NY) had written one on Scars, physical
and mental. In a flash of inspiration, there it was for me, this is
what I wrote.
Scars, the Symbols of Faith and Love
The scars of old wounds can run deep and long,
But God cares and heals in every moment;
And like the lilt of an old familiar gospel song,
Our scars came and then they went.
Faith be my refuge when times are tough,
And peace envelop me in your strength;
For as the world around us gets rough,
The Holy Spirit goes to every length.
Found in the hearts of one and all,
Can be faith effortless and unbound;
With the Spirit may we stand tall,
As God's love, grace, and peace are found.
May our scars be seen forever more,
As symbols of our strength in His love;
For eternity will one day restore,
Our hearts released on wings of a dove.
