I hope I started a bit of a stir by stating that there are not many chat rooms
for women with spinal cord injuries.
At the time of my injury my daughter was 11 years old. I had been a single mom
since she was 14 months old.
I worked as a nurse since I was 19years old. After my injury I was in rehab for
4 months and home for 2 months getting a car, my daughter into her new school. I
had just bought a house in May of that year and the accident happened in August.
Well we didn't loose our house. I was back to work in total time of 6 months. I
could hardly pull up my pants when I went to the bathroom. I worked in a
clinical setting with a great group of women they were my support system. One
would come with me to the bathroom and help me, as I got stronger I was able to
do it on my own.
I work for a great Doctor and Friend. He and his wife (who was a nurse) would
come to rehab. to see what my day would be like. His wife would come and go
through the day with me. I was like a job.
My daughter is 34 now and married to a wonderful man and they have 2 darling
children. A boy 19 months and a daughter 3 weeks old.
I had to stop working because I hurt myself at work lifting and twisting and
that was in 2000.
My daughter and son in law talked me into moving closer to them. I lived in
Santa Cruz and now I live in Roseville,Ca big difference.
I have not found any support groups up here but I have only been here since
March 2004
