Kelly,
My name is Kim and I am 23 years old and my husband and I have been married
going on 2 years..
I went through exactly what you are going through..
I was receiving SSI benefits until I got married, but luckly I was able to keep
my medicaid but I did loose
the money I was receiving...I think it really all depends on the combination of
you and your husbands income..
GOOD LUCK

Subject: [Women with SCI] SCI/Social security and marriage
Hey my name is Kelly and I am recently engaged. I'm also on Social
security which is a problem I think. I'm under the impression that
if I get married I will lose my SS benefits, medicair, medicaid and
the other public home health programs that I am on. Has anyone else
ever had to deal with this? It is very discouraging! Hell it is just
plain sad. I finally found someone that loves me and wants to marry
me but if we get married I lose what I have and my medical needs are
too enormous for my fiance to carry on his own. If we get married we
will be living in poverty not that being on SS is living it up but
atleast I have some medical benefits and get some of my supplies and
my medications paid for. Anybody have any ideas or am I destined to
be an old maid with no hope of getting to marry the man I love?
Kelly
