Hi,
I do not have SCI but my sister has recently become a member
of your group. She and my husband were traveling to California to move
my father to Louisiana to live with her when they were involved in a one
car accident which left my sister with a broken neck and crushed t5 and
t6. Eventhough she has good bicep and tricep movement she has limited
hand movement and has been classified as a quadriplegic. She is
currently on a ventilator and developed pneumonia and had a blockage in
her sm. Intestine which was allowing fluid to back up in her abdomen.
Everything except the ventilator has been cleared up but I still worry
about her being on one. I am very new to Spinal Cord Injuries and
admittedly ignorant but I am learning. My husband still has nightmares
about the accident and a lot of misplace guilt. My sister does not
remember the accident at all so she thinks she was the one driving when
it happened. My father has guilt because they were driving out to CA to
move him and I have guilt because I was the one who asked them to go and
move him. If you can, tell me more about SCI and the programs
available to victims and families. TIA.
T. Andrews
