Kim,
While I don't know, from experience, whether or not you can have a
normal pregnancy, I have talked to a few doctors about it as my
fiance and I plan our future together. I am told by a SCI doctor and
my gynecologist that SCI women are able to conceive and carry a baby
as any other woman would. I am also told that we have the benefit of
no labor pains! I have friends with kids and I've heard of the
horrible pain, so I have a hard time believing that we get out of it,
but that's what I'm told!! My best advice for you, since every woman
is different, SCI or not, is to talk to your gynecologist as well as
a doctor who is experienced with SCI. I know there are a few women
within our group that have children, but the ones I have spoken with
had them pre-injury. Good luck in your child planning, and let us all
know how it turns out!
