Annual Picnic Rocks, Raises $1.3 Million for Foundation

The Foundation hosted its 20th annual A Time For Heroes Celebrity Picnic June 7, drawing more than 2000 supporters and raising more than $1.3 million. Families and famous faces—including supermodel Heidi Klum; actors Henry Winkler, Billy Crystal, Mark Wahlberg, and Sharon Stone; musicians Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, husband Pete Wentz, and their 6-month-old son Bronx; reality star Lauren Conrad; and former NFL great Michael Strahan—spent a beautiful day playing carnival games, enjoying incredible food, and rocking out to a stellar performance by superstar Miley Cyrus.

A Time For Heroes also kicked off Join the Moment, the Foundation's 20th anniversary campaign to create a generation free of HIV. Guests participated in the campaign by assembling Generation Free kits full of baby blankets and vital medical supplies, which will be delivered to women and babies in need in Uganda. Ambassadors Honor Longtime Foundation Partner

Celebrity Ambassador Gloria Reuben and Family Ambassador Yonus Meredith celebrated the Foundation's 11-year partnership with Jewelers for Children (JFC) at the organization's annual Facets of Hope dinner on May 31. The pair spoke movingly about their personal connections to the Foundation's work and thanked JFC for their continued generous support of the Foundation's global initiatives. JFC made a 2009 commitment of $225,000 to the Foundation, bringing their total contributions to more than $6.3 million since 1998. More.

Documentary Captures Foundation's Progress at Home and Abroad

Fashion photographer Nigel Barker and Foundation President and CEO Pam Barnes were on Capitol Hill May 6, where they met with Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) to discuss the Foundation's advocacy efforts. Barker also filmed segments with Lowey, a longtime ally in the Foundation's fight against pediatric AIDS, for his documentary on the Foundation's work. Featuring footage shot at Foundation-supported sites in Tanzania, Barker's film is set to premiere this fall in Washington, DC. Watch the Foundation PSAs produced by Barker.

Parliamentarian Inaugurates Foundation Clinic in Tanzania

The Hai district of Tanzania is home to a new Foundation-supported HIV care and treatment center. Foundation staff opened the center on May 1 with a ceremony attended by the Honorable Fuya Kimbita, Hai district's parliamentary representative, as well as members of the Ariel Children's Club and surrounding community. The center will provide critical HIV services and treatment to families throughout the district. Read more about our work in Tanzania.
