20th Annual A Time for Heroes Celebrity Picnic to Feature Performance by Miley Cyrus

The Foundation is excited to welcome superstar Miley Cyrus to the stage at the 20th annual A Time for Heroes Celebrity Picnic on June 7 in Los Angeles! Cyrus will join a host of other celebrities and families for a day of fun, food, music, and games, all to support the Foundation's work to create a generation free of HIV. This year Disney will generously join us again as the event's title sponsor, ensuring the funds raised will help the Foundation continue its lifesaving work. Get your ticket and find out who else will be there!

Foundation Makes Incredible Progress in Rwanda

Foundation President and CEO Pam Barnes visited Rwanda in March, where she toured the Masaka Health Center with Country Director Cornelia Van Zyl. Members of the Ministry of Health and other key stakeholders and partners were also present. In the last three years, the clinic has made tremendous progress in preventing the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies: In 2006, 105 babies were born to HIV-positive mothers at Masaka; of those, only 8 contracted HIV. Two years later, just one baby out of 101 tested HIV-positive. The hardworking staff at the Masaka Health Center are getting closer to their goal of zero babies born with HIV, but there is still much work to be done. Find out how you can help the Foundation create a generation free of HIV.

$2 Million Secured for Development of Pediatric Medical Devices

At the urging of the Foundation and other leading children's health groups, Congress recently appropriated funding for the 2009 fiscal year to drive the creation of safe, effective medical devices for children. Development of pediatric medical devices currently lags five to ten years behind development for adults, leaving children without the medical technologies they need and forcing healthcare providers to use interventions that may be less effective or higher risk. The spending bill passed by the Senate last month contains $2 million in funds that will give scientists and innovators the resources to increase the number of medical devices available to children. Côte d'Ivoire Office Honored

The Foundation's Côte d'Ivoire office received a special award of distinction from Abidjan's district governor last month, honoring our work as a valuable partner in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The Foundation has been a key supporter of Abidjan's HIV/AIDS education and advocacy campaign, which launched in December. Read more about our work in Côte d'Ivoire.
