Emily posted an announcement to the cause Generation Free Campaign: The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

----------------
Love was in the air this weekend as, for the eighth year in a row, UCLA students stepped up their fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS. From 11 am on Saturday to 1 pm on Sunday, a record-breaking 2,500 young adults participated in UCLA's love-themed dance marathon to benefit the Foundation. Close to 1,000 dancers stayed on their feet for 26 hours straight, encouraged and supported by another 1,500 moralers and event volunteers. By the end of the weekend, their combined efforts helped to raise more than $250,000 to support the Foundation's work to create a generation free of HIV. (For more info on the event, click here: http://www.pedaids.org/Events/UniversityEvents/UCLA-Dance-Marathon-2009.aspx)

This year's marathon had more participants than ever before. What compelled them all to give up their hard-earned weekend? Well, the abundance of good food and celebrities probably didn't hurt—appearances by rapper Talib Kweli and The Office's Kate Flannery fueled the party, as did gratis food and drinks—and neither did knowing that their efforts would help amazing kids in desperate need [link: http://www.pedaids.org/AboutUs/SurvivorSpotlight.aspx]. But we think it's more than that.

First of all, today's college students—your peers—make up the most socially aware generation in recent history. You take an active interest in the world and an active role in changing it. You don't accept the status quo—and the world is becoming a better place because of that.

Second, not one of you knows a world without AIDS. Your generation has always lived with the reality of this disease. You know what a devastating toll it has taken—and continues to take—on our world. Luckily, your generation also knows that we have the tools to end this pandemic. And you want to help us do it.

Please continue to show your support for the Foundation's work: Donate [link: http://www.pedaids.org/YouCanHelp/Donate.aspx], advocate [link: http://www.pedaids.org/YouCanHelp/Advocacy.aspx], and communicate [link: http://apps.facebook.com/causes/583?m=ebaeef21].

Your generation will create the next. With your help, it will be a generation free of HIV.

--Your friends at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
