Twenty years ago Elizabeth Glaser set out to change the world -- to save her son's life after her daughter died -- and to make sure that every child with HIV/AIDS had a chance for a healthy life.

To say that the Foundation has come a long way since then is an understatement. We're working in more than 3,200 sites in 18 countries around the world. In a day and age when the word "global" has taken on a whole new meaning, your support has been crucial in our efforts to create a generation free of HIV.

In the past year, YOU have helped us accomplish the impossible. Here are a few of the wonderful successes we've achieved with your support:

• As of June 30, 2008, the Foundation has reached more than 5.7 million women with prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV services.
  
  
• More than 4.8 million women have been tested for HIV through Foundation-supported programs, and more than 470,000 individuals, including more than 39,000 children, have been enrolled in our HIV care and support programs.
  
  
• Last year, 28 percent of ALL HIV-positive pregnant women worldwide who received PMTCT services did so through Foundation-supported programs. That's more than one in four women who have been helped directly by us...and directly by you.
  
  
• On July 30, 2008, the president signed into law the reauthorization for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program. As a result, $48 billion in funding was approved for global HIV/AIDS programs over the next five years. The Foundation successfully lobbied Congress to include important PMTCT and pediatric treatment provisions in this landmark legislation.
