Kids for Kids Takes Manhattan!
New place, new time, same fantastic day of fun and fundraising for the Foundation! The 15th annual Kids for Kids Family Carnival took place September 20th at New York City's Park Avenue Armory, bringing together families affected by HIV/AIDS, celebrities, and Foundation supporters. The afternoon of carnival games, entertainment, and first-class food put smiles on many faces and raised nearly $2 million for the Foundation. More.
Art Auction Draws Big Names and Big Support for the Foundation
On the eve of Kids for Kids, art aficionados gathered at Sotheby's for an exclusive auction benefiting the Foundation. Pieces by Cecily Brown, Tom Friedman, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, and Richard Prince attracted much attention and top-dollar bids, bringing in $1.6 million in proceeds for Foundation programs. Foundation Celebrity Ambassador Visits South Africa
Foundation President Pam Barnes and Celebrity Ambassador Gloria Reuben spent two eye-opening and heartwarming days in August touring Foundation-supported clinics in South Africa. The trip, Reuben's first as Ambassador, allowed the television star to spend time with mothers, babies, and clinic staff and see the lifesaving work of the Foundation firsthand. Reuben pronounced her time in South Africa "amazing" and reaffirmed her resolve to be a tireless advocate for women and children. See photos from the trip.
Love and Laughter at Ariel Camp 2008
Last month 34 children living with HIV gathered at the Wild Life Centre in Entebbe, Uganda, for the Foundation's third Ariel Children's Camp. The week-long Camp, named in memory of Elizabeth Glaser's late daughter, explored the theme of "living a meaningful life" and featured wildlife expeditions, an airport fieldtrip, and a spirited talent show. Journal Supplement Edited by Foundation VP
Foundation vice president for technical implementation Dr. Richard Marlink served on the editorial committee for a special supplement to AIDS, the journal of the International AIDS Society, published in July. The supplement highlights cross-discipline AIDS research focused on how health economists and policymakers can work together to best respond to the HIV/AIDS crisis. Read Dr. Marlink's editorial.
New VP of Research Appointed
The Foundation is proud to welcome Laura Ann Guay, M.D., as vice president for research. Dr. Guay brings more than 20 years' experience to the Foundation, having devoted her career to pediatric medicine as a physician, professor, and researcher.
