Each year, Congress considers legislation, known as the budget resolution, which sets the broad parameters for spending on federal programs for the next fiscal year. This year, Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) have offered an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2007 Budget Resolution that will increase resources for domestic health care programs by $7 billion. If approved, this amendment could help increase funding of critical programs that support HIV/AIDS research, prevention, care and treatment. We urge you to call your Senators today to ask for their support of the Specter-Harkin amendment when it is offered during Senate consideration of the budget resolution later this week.
