Vaccine Awareness Day

Wear your red AIDS Awareness ribbon upside down today, May 18, to mark HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. A vaccine against HIV is the greatest hope in the battle against the disease, and supporting innovative research today will pave the way for a safe, effective vaccine in the future. And children must not be left behind in this search. Failure to include them could mean significant delays in the availability of a pediatric vaccine -- delays that could cost thousands of lives. Through the Elizabeth Glaser Scientist Award, the Foundation funds research that someday could provide the basis for an effective pediatric vaccine. MORE.

Key Stakeholders Discuss Affordable Drugs for Children

For the first time, major players in the U.S. government; representatives from brand and generic pharmaceutical companies; and leaders from non-governmental organizations, including the Foundation, have joined forces to improve HIV medications for children in resource-poor settings. This partnership, spearheaded by First Lady Laura Bush, marks the first time high-level representatives from these groups have gathered to discuss issues specific to pediatric HIV medications. At the inaugural meeting last month, the Foundation set forth a series of recommendations based on its significant experience in the field and will continue to play a key advisory role in this partnership to help ensure medications reach the children who need them most. Family Carnivals Kick Off

On May 20, join celebrity Heroes and Foundation families at the Kids for Kids Family Carnival in New York City. Set in the charming West Village, with fun and celebrity sightings at every turn, this event is a must for New York families. Tiki Barber, Vanessa Manillo, and Whoppi Goldberg are planning to attend -- shouldn't you? Buy tickets or view our celebrity guest list.

On the West Coast, the Foundation's A Time For Heroes Celebrity Carnival, sponsored by Disney, kicks off in sunny Los Angeles on June 11. Feast on gourmet goodies; play along at cutting-edge activity stations; and mingle with LA's hottest stars, athletes, and musical guests, including Teri Hatcher, Rachel Bilson, and Jesse McCartney (all of whom are scheduled to appear). Buy tickets or view the most up-to-date celebrity guest list. Please join us -- because every child deserves a lifetime.
