Hi Everybody!
I was soooo happy to find out about this great group!  I had gastric bypass surgery in August of 2002.  Prior to the surgery I had lost about 105 pounds through Weight Watchers, but I just couldn't get the rest off!  Weight has been a major issue in my life.  After gastric bypass I was able to lose about 100 pounds.  I'm about 30 pounds or so from my goal!!  I think that about 25 of those pounds is loose skin!  I started to do some research about finding a surgeon and came across Dr. Revis's site.  I wish that I lived in Florida!  He seems incredible!  I have learned so much from his site.  I have found a great surgeon in my hometown of Akron, Ohio.  I am going to have a series of three surgeries all together.  The first one is scheduled for August 8th.  For the first surgery he is going to do an almost complete lower body lift.  He is going to lipo my thighs,  but not do the thigh lift until the second surgery.  I'm so glad that I found you guys!  Hearing all about your procedures and what your going through and feeling is such a great thing.  I think that it's so hard for someone else, no matter how well meaning they are, to understand what we're going through!   I'm really looking forward to being a part of your group!                        Christy

Andy,

Good to hear from you.  On July 19, just 8 days from now, I will undergo my second procedure.  It's legs and butt time, as I call it. I am looking forward to it, and think I will be a better patient this time, since I am more aware of the procedures of recovery.  I still have some open areas in my incision from my last procedure (only 12 weeks back) but am not concerned.  Dr Revis is so good, I am sure they will heal in due time.

Hey Everyone!!
Sorry it's been so long since I have been on line or taken care of the pending members. Unfortunately my Dad had fallen a few weeks ago and broken his hip, then I was away with my kids - I will be changing this group to open membership so no one has to wait to be apporved - I wish I had known I could do that before...
Anyway - please make use of this group - I think it could be a really helpfull tool for some of us.

Hi, gang.  I successfully underwent my "tummy tuck" and chin lift this past Thursday.  Uneventful procedures, Dr. Revis and all North Ridge Hospital staff were great.  The only discomfort I felt was related to the head dressings which made my ears, neck, shoulders, and back sore, but not painful. On returning home, my only issue has been with blood clots forming in the drains form the abdominoplasty, but I think I've got that licked now, and they are flowing quite smoothly.  I found the surgery to be FAR LESS severe than the gastric bypass I had three years ago.  Swelling and bruising are really quite minimal, and I am taking the recommended SinEcch and Unjury.  If it weren't for the drain problem, this would have felt like a cake walk.  Everyone, of course, is different, and Andy found some of his recoveries quite painful.  Don't expect any insurance coverage; I understand it's extremely rare.   Roger, Naples, FL

Hi Peggy!!

I'm glad to hear you didn't have any pain from the procedure - Thats
what I was saying the other day - IF you ask 10 people who have had
surgery you will most likely get 10 different answers as to the level
of pain - It is different for almost everyone.

As far as the lipo on your legs - I think it could take 4 weeks or
more for the swelling to go down but I'm no doctor :-) Asl Dr. Revis
on your next visit - I know my swelling didn't go down for almost 6
weeks - but I always take longer than the norm... I guess I'm just
weird that way.

How are you feeling?

Take Care,
Andy

Andy,

I have to say I had a completely different experience regarding pain after my tummy tuck.  I didn't feel any real pain.  Dr. Revis knew I couldn't deal with morphine or codeine, so he tried to find something else that worked for me.  I really didn't need it, and by the second day after my procedure, he put me on darvacet.  Took 2 of them (one a day) and then gave them up. Didn't use the muscle relaxers either.

I think the big thing with my tummy tuck is the inconvenience of the girdle and the drainage tubes.  But I know it will be worth it.

A question for you.....

I had lipo on my upper legs, and don't see a difference yet in the size.  How long before the swelling subsides?

Welcome to the group Nelva!!!

I wish you the best on this new Journey!! My insurance didn't cover
any of the surgeries. I have heard of some people being covered for
limited procedures but you have to go thru months of documenting the
problems the skin is causing you ect..

As far as pain goes - I think it's different for every person and
also depends on the procedure being done. I had very little pain
when I had my open R&Y Gastric Bypass - never hit the morphine - not
even once, but when I woke up from the lower body lift I was
squeezing that morphine button for all I was worth - trying to get
every bit of the drug into my body that I could!! But on my last
set of procedures I didn't have much pain at all and recovered
faster than I ever had, though the fast recovery may have had
something to do with the protein milkshakes the Doc had me on.

Good luck and let us know how it's going.

Take Care,
Andy

Hi all,

I had gastric bypass 3 years ago, and a tummy tuck 2 weeks ago.  No real pain after the surgery.........just inconvenience because of the drainage tubes and having to sleep sitting up.  I also had the fat and skin under my arms removed, and already see the improvement.

I am going back to work today, just for a few hours.

Roger,

I think you are going to really like the Unjury. I took it before my
surgery because Dr. Marema had recommended it, and I really believe it
made me feel better much much faster than my other surgeries.

Good luck on your upcoming surgeries. I had the neckl lift also, and
it healed really really well, it's only been 6 or 7 weeks and the
scare has turned into a really fine white line, and that is now fading
thanks the the scar guard I bought at the office.

Again - Best of luck!!

I'll be getting a "tummy tuck" to remove the excess skin left behind
by my gastric bypass surgery in October 2001 with Dr. Marema. I'm
also getting a "necklift" (because of Dr. Revis' 1/2 price for
additional procedures deal!). I've already purchased the "Unjury"
and the "SinEcch" to promote healing and reduce swelling and
bruising. I'll comment on the success of these products after
surgery

I just got e-mailed the link to see the footage of 2 extreme
makeovers being done by Dr. Revis, for Kelvin and Andy.

Kelvin has already been evaluated but he is waiting till he reaches
his goal weight before having plastic surgery.

Andy (me) Just completed the last of 3 sets of surgeries done over
the last 12 months. The footage only shows me after the first
surgery, but keep your eyes and ears open because sometime this year
Maury will Have Dr. Revis and I on his show in New York to tell the
world all the gory details of what he did to me.

Check out the video and give Dr. Revis a big hand. I mean this guy
has got to be a sucker for punishment, if you put all 3 of my
surgeries together you would figure out that he operated on me for a
whopping total of 25 - 28 hours (not positive of the exact amount)
That is way too long to see anyone (especially me) naked!!!

The link is: http://webtek.sitestream.com/DrRevisNews.vsml

I am told that pretty soon this video link will be added to the
Doc's web site.

Your terrific at details. Painted a beautiful picture, (if you want

go
through to acheive what we want huh? Only those of us that are brave

is definetly worth it! I must add the Lysol to my list and the
flashlight as well, great bit of info there!
I'll be down in Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday, April 24. I have an
appointment with Dr. Revis Monday a.m. the 25th. May I take you to
lunch either day? We can talk some more then, (my little way of

I'm soooo glad you liked the shake - I would start taking it at
least a week before surgery and 3 - 4 weeks after - but let Dr.
Revis tell you when to start and stop - It will make a big
difference.

OK about the shower - Let me remind you to ask your Doctor about
anything I tell you - these are things that worked for me - that
doesn't mean they will work well for others.

Once the Dr. lets you know it's ok to start showering get your bed
ready first - I usually spray down with some Lysol just to make sure
all is as germ free as I can. I even spray the shower with it - just
to be safe - a bit overkill I guess - but I have not gotten any
infections in all my surgeries so better safe than sorry.

I get the bed ready, If I am going to need bandages for some part of
the surgery then I get that ready and put it next to my bed - I get
my mirror and flashlight ready - "What for " you may ask - well -
sometimes I need to put a bandage somewhere I can't reach too well -
like under my arm - with the flashlight and mirror I can take a good
look at it and make sure it is healing well and can bandage it
better. - Ok so the bedroom is ready - get your hair dryer and set
it out so after your shower you don't have to waste too much time
getting it ect... Make sure you have a place to sit in your
bathroom - even if it is on top of the toilet seat - sometimes the
first shower can leave you very very tired and woozy - this way if
you start to feel weak or sick you can sit for a minute relax.

Make sure you have a big bottle of antibacterial soap - I don't care
if it has moisturizers or smells like apples - just make sue it is a
good antibacterial soap. Have a clean washcloth on hand as well.

Set your water - inform someone in the house that you will be in the
shower - take off any bandages you are supposed to take off put a
piece of fabric around your neck and hang any drains you have left
on it so they are close to you and not pulling on the stitches that
hold them in.

Get in the shower - wet yourself down - don't be afraid to let the
water cascade over the areas where the drains enter your body and
don't be afraid to let the water hit your surgical area - It's a
good thing. After you wash your hair take the soap in your bare
hands and run it gently around your surgical areas - as well as the
rest of your body - be very gentle - you don't want to rub too hard
just glide over those areas. Take the wash cloth - get it good and
wet and put plenty of soap on it - and blot the surgical areas
lightly as well as the rest of your body. Rinse really really well -
in fact if you have a hand shower take it down and use it on the
surgical areas with gentle water pressure - nothing to ruff - don't
put it on shower message or anything. Once you are rinsed get out
of the shower dry yourself really well everywhere but blot gently
over your surgical areas.

OK - now that you fairly dry - take the hair dryer set it on warm
and start drying the areas along your stitches - this is important
because you want to keep these areas as dry as you can so they heal
faster - move the dryer around allot - since the stitched areas may
be numb you don't want to burn yourself accidentally - so keep the
dryer moving but dry those areas really well. When you are done get
in bed put on the antibacterial ointment where the drains go in, put
on the bandages where the Doc said you need them - put your stretch
garments back on (if you are supposed to) Relax - take your meds and
go to sleep...

I hope this long rambling thing can be understood - I knew I
shouldn't try to write after taking a pain pill... <just kidding>

Hi Andy!

I received the Unjury protein powder and I must tell you it wasn't
bad at all! I had some over ice, topped off with a little whipped
cream, yummmm.... Should I start drinking that for a while before
surgery each day, or drink after to promote healing? I usually have a
Pure Protein or Opti Soy shake for breakfast, it's easier for me to
have a can on the run in the morning.
I'm all set with the SinEcch thanks, I also used that with my prior
surgery, I do believe it helps too. Oh the drains, how well I remember
those things, although they were'nt as bad as I thought, I didn't even
feel it when Dr. Revis removed them, I had myself wound up about that
before they were removed. He did a good job of tricking me, they out
before I knew it! Hope the same goes well this time, it's just the
anticipation of expecting it to hurt...
My next surgery is May 10, for sure come by and see me. I'd like to
see how your doing since your last surgery as well, maybe you can
advise me an easier way to walk, sit, etc... being you've already
been through it all. You've been such a help already and I really
appreciate every bit of advise and encouragement you have given me.
Now, give me your imput on the blow dryer. Thanks dear! Barb

I wish you the best Barb!! The other thing I wanted to remind you
about is when you see Dr. Revis make sure you get that new medecine
he sells at the office - I think it's called SinEcch - I'm not sure
if I even spelled it right - but whatever the heck it's called I
can't believe how much it helped with my swelling and the black and
blue marks - I rmeember the first rpocedure I had one of the things
Dr. Revis did was lipo my legs. After surgery and for about 4 weeks
I had terrible black and blue marks on my legs - and pain - but it
went away after a while - but the last 2 surgeries I purchased that
SinEcce and - NO BLACK AND BLUE MARKS!! I don't know if it will work
that well on everyone - but I have heard from some of my forneds
that got it from Dr. Revis before surgery and they said the same
thing - it works!! Also since you live in ORlando - remember before
you go home to get the scar guard - I can't wait to start painting
myself with it again - I just have to wait to heal a little more - I
think he will start me on it next week - but since you won't be here
that often make sure you get some.

Let me know when and at what Hospital you will be staying at and I
will try to come out and cheer you on!! I sure wouldn't come see
you the first day - as I hated having anyone come see me that day
after surgery - but I'll try seeing the the next day if you feel up
to company. Let me know how much you like the Unjury when you get
it - I think you will like it so much you'll buy it agian from Dr.
Revis - I really can't believe how much better it has made me feel!!
And now that I know he has it in stock I won't have to pay the damn
shipping charges anymore!! <grin> Always trying to save a buck - you
know?? :-)

Anyway - if you have any other questions let me know - oh and don't
forget a hair dryer when you come for the surgery - I'll tell you
why in my next post - this one is getting way too long.

TakeCare,
Andy

have available for the neck drainage tube-Thank you!

Dear Andy,

Thank you so much for coming up with the idea for this newsgroup! I
think it will develop into a wonderful resource for patients and
others seeking information regarding body contouring after bariatric
surgery.

As you know, I have dedicated a large amount of time and energy
developing a comprehensive program for the post-bariatric patient.
At present, this highly specialized field makes up 50% of my
practice.

I believe that body contouring in the post-bariatric patient is very
different from body contouring in a similar weight patient who has
not lost 100 pounds or more. Therefore, it is important to educate
both patients and other plastic surgeons who would undertake these
types of procedures in the differences which can really make the
difference between an "okay" result and an "excellent" result.

I applaud your efforts, and I hope to be able to participate in this
group regularly to answer questions or participate in the ongoing
conversations.

Sincerely,

Don Revis, MD, FACS

Hi Barb!!

You will be greatfull for those wash clothes I think - It was the
only way I could think of to keep everything below the belt nice and
dry... As far as the milk shakes - I think you will be really happy
with it - though I wish you would have waited to ask Dr. Revis
office if they are gonna give you some first - it doesn't mater -
you'll just have xtra if they do - but I hate to see yha spend the
money if you didn't have to... But as I said - I don't know if you
will love the flavor or not - but I think you will love the results -
at least I sure hope you do.

Since you have had surgery with Dr. Revis before I am assuming you
have already learned to take care of those damn drains - how to
strip clots out ect - make sure you have some piece of cloth you can
wear around your neck to hag the drains on when the Doc says you are
ready to shower... Make sure you also have triple antibiotic
ointment - I use the generic neosporin from Walmart - weather you
are showering or not - but especially after you start to shower -
you will want to take some of the ointment on a q-tip and put it
around each of the "hoses" from the drains - where they go into your
body - put it on the skin, around the skin and inbetween the hose
and skin - it will keep down any chance of infection and (more
important to me) keeps the skin around the drain soft and supple so
it doesn't grow around the drain - it will be much
less "uncomfortable" when they pull the drains - the skin won't be
so stuck to to hose. I have a couple of other tips I'll share about
showering when I get home tonight. Hope this info helps you.

Tkae Care,
Andy

HI Guys!!

My name is Andy, 4 years after major weight loss I was struggling to
find the right Plastic Surgeon in order to get lots and lots of skin
removed from all over. After interviewing 6 Doctors I finally
settled on Dr. Revis. In my opinion - he is great!! Kind, caring,
inteligent, and very very down to earth - he always has a smile on
his face alojng with a look of confidance - I knew from the day I
met him that he would be my surgeon. He does all kinds of plastic
surgery but specializes (and in my opinion excels) on working with
post-bariatric patients. People who have lost large amounts of
weight.
Since March of 2004 I have had a slew of procedures, including:
Lower Body Lift, Mid-thigh lift, free nipple graft, removal of
excess breast fat, fat graft to the face, neck and face lipo
suction, neck lift, outer and inner leg liposuction, a new procedure
invented by him that took off all the excess skin on the sides, arm
lift, and a revision to the tummy tuck along with some more
liposuction... I'm Done!!!

It's been a year of surgeries with lots of highs and a couple of
lows and I have come out on the other side looking and feeling like
a new person. I can't thank this talented Doctor and his staff
enough for all the nips and tucks they did on me - I know I was a
hand full!!!

If anyone has any questions about the procedures I have had or my
personal experiances please feel free to ask.

Hello Everyone!!

Welcome to the unofficial news group for Dr. Revis' patients!! Feel
free to post questions or tell us about your story. Let us know if
you are pre or post op or just trying to learn more first. Fell free
to share your thoughts and feelings, but please don't knock others -
be polite and considerate to one and all.

Dr. Revis promised to look in on the group every week and will try
to answer as many GENERAL questions as he can. If you have a case
specific question about yourself or your care that you would like
Dr. Revis to address please e-mail him directly or call him at the
office so as to maintain your own privacy.

Remember this group is unofficial. It is recomended that you don't
try any of the hints and tips contained in here without first asking
your Doctor if it is safe for you in particular. We don't want
anyone getting hurt with bad advice - use common sense, and always
ask your Doctor anyway. What works for one person may not always
work for another.
