I am Mercy. I had the surgery in January 2002 and I lost 220 lbs. When I attended to the  infomation session, they informed me that you must be at least 100 lbs. overweight, but that sometimes when the person was 60 lbs overwieght and had health problems, they will be able to perform the procedure. My best advice, because everything changes with time, is that you go into the US Bariatric website to find more updated infomration. The website is www.usbariatric.com. Good luck.
