Hello all!
I'm Crystal and I live in Atlanta, GA. I just joined the group.
I had my first "shot" of wheatgrass today. A great shooter from
Whole Foods - wheatgrass juice, fresh lemon juice and ginger. One
word...WOW!!!
I've never been a fan of anything (and I mean anything) green but
just last week, my doctor called me and said "Go to the emergency
room...your hemoglobin is 5 and you need a blood transfusion". I
freaked out. I am normally very very healthy and this frightened me.
I decided to take Slow Fe iron twice a day, eat foods high in iron
and a few other things. I have my doctor's blessing but did tell
her I would monitor things and if it got to a point I thought I was
worse I would get the transfusion.
I went into a smoothie place Saturday and read about Wheatgrass (they
were out or I would have purchased a shot). I am loving what I read
about it and now I need to find out how much is too much. I need to
get my hemoglobin up relatively quickly but safely (for a woman -
normal hemoglobin range is 11.8 - 15) so you can see..I'm down low
(we know the cause of it and that has been corrected). Should I
drink a shot a day, a shot several times a week? I don't want to
overdo it. My iron containes 264% of the rda and I take it twice a
day, a cereal with 100% rda and then my veggies, vitamin C and
meats.
Has anyone had experience with wheatgrass assisting with
hemoglobin/anemia?
Thank you.
Crystal
