Thanx for your reply. I suspect that I am using a twin brother to
your Enzoom. It is a potting soil made and marketed by the name of
COAST OF MAINE. It is called the COBSCOOK BLEND and is contains
salmon, wild blueberries, sphagnum peat, aged hemlock, pine and
fir.Legend has it that native tribes of Maine used this blend from
the Passamaquoddy Bay in Maine long before we arrived. I am a
believer in potting soil using fish parts. I use it to augment my
compost. The people I bought it from have used it 50-50 with soil to
grow tomatoes with great success. When mixing I will take 3 shovels
of compost and add a HEAPING shovel of Cobscook plus Azomite approx 1
heaping tablesppon to each gallon of soil. I also have some Miricle
Grow Organic Choice Garden Soil which they tell me is new BUT it says
NOT TO BE USED IN POTS!! Made for garden only? Can you comment on
this?
I have for the first time throw away a few trays these past months.
My present 2 trays are closely monitored. I am using the same trays,
same soil, same amount of seeds from the same batch, BUT, with one
exception. I am growing one above the soil and one with a coating of
soil approx. 1/4 inch on top of the seeds. There are NO SEEDS EXPOSED
in the second tray. I admit that the weather is now better for
growing, but I am getting some mold on the tray exposed and cannot
see any in the second tray, and the grass looks nice and green, but
not as THICK a blade as I have had in the past. If I can make
something like a FLOWER SIFTER to accept the soil it would be perfect
for this. I have not yet harvested either tray but will let you know
after I repeat this process at least 2 times. I did use h2o2 in
soaking but for only 6 to 7 hours and and rinsed 5 times before
planting. I sprayed the first application of water. I do not use
newspaper to cover after reading the chemicals used in the inks. I do
use clear white paper, but don't think this is necessary if it is
sprayed or watered daily. I DO , HOWEVER, SEE A DIFFERENCE in the
quality of seed at times. How should I describe them? old ?,
shriveled ?. I am starting to believe that the TIME OF YEAR when
purchased makes a difference in the quality of seed. Your comment of
shiney, hard seeds rings a bell on this observation. The latest
Wheatgrass Newsletter says other seeds like barley, kamut do not
mold.My seeds are organic and stored properly. Your recommendation of
MAXI-CROP sounds like a good one. I am also becoming a believer in
spirulina as a powdered subsitiute and in addition to the juice.
Juice in the AM, mixed spirulina in a drink in the PM.
I am determined to see this thru and find a sure fire method....so
this is.......to be continued........Pax, Ernie
