Hi,
Thanks for the fast response.
I used too much seed for sure. I have a second batch growing now, so will
see what happens.
I'm not using soil, but an organic "carpet" that I purchased from Seaspray
(same place as the kelp). I don't use a sprouter, but laid the seeds on the
damp carpet and covered with wet newspaper for a few days. They sprouted
well (almost all) and the first days of growth were fantastic. I think my
problem here is lack of water. My dad grows grass too and uses soil - his
are an inch taller (and thicker) and were planted a day after mine. He
leaves his outside during the day - mine grows under lights inside. (Too
many flies in NJ to be outside).
I recently read that lights for 24 hours are not good as the plants needs
rest or time to do whatever it is supposed to at night, so I'm going to cut
exposure down to 14 hours as recommended by most. As for mold prevention, I
think it is because I have a fan on the grass. My grass is now 3 inches tall
and hasn't seen any white fluff as yet. This could also be the reason for
patchy growth - too dry.
So far I'm a third of the height I need and 7 days into growth - much to
slow.
I'll let you know what changes with the new batch.
Regards
Quentin.

I never even noticed (your comment of height of grass) on mine.I
think you are concerned needlessly. I have come to believe that an
EVEN LAYER of seed (not piled up on each other) is the proper way.
Also, I see you are not sprouting the seed prior to planting.
Try this: 1.RINSE until water is clear 2.SOAK overnight 8-10 hrs (
use enough wate as the seeds swell). 3.RINSE until water is clear
(use soaking water for flowers or other plants) 4. COVER & SPROUT for
another day or 8-10 hrs. 5. PLANT, but do not pile up seeds. 5. WATER
or SPRAY ( I WATER). 6.COVER for 2 days or until grass is about 1
1/2 - 2 inches tall.
I don't think nature would have them grow uniformly. I know when I
sprout and grow sunflower seeds and other greens they grow at
different rates .I have explained pretty much what is in Ann Wigs
video. Are using too many seeds? I try to just cover the earth so it
doesn't show BUT not piled up. PAX...egulls2
