The doctor had suspected hypercalcemia but physically my dad seems fine. No muscle pain. He's up wandering around a lot. This is unusual for him. He normally keeps to himself and stays in his room. Last weekend, he packed his bags late at night and left the facility. They found him outside looking for his wife, "the blond". If he was looking for my mom, they have been divorced for at least 35 years. He also was telling them he worked for the Sheriff's department and was in California. This was all true 35 years ago. My dad is not a small man. Him believing he's a cop, makes him even more dangerous when he's unstable.
My son, mom and I are going up there in April. I'm torn over the visit. While I really want to see him, I have always represented going home to him. He can't go home. Ever. It just tears me up inside.
I'm planning to call one of the nurses I spoke with last weekend. One who knows my dad. His regular nurse has been on vacation and the fill in nurse wasn't very helpful. I don't blame her though. Not only does she not know my dad, she doesn't know who I am.
This is all so hard to handle being out of state.
Thanks for listening.

Hi Carrie,
Any infection can be enough to send someone into a
confused state for a few days but a week does sound
strange. My dad had a UTI and that made him worse (had
a fall, had to got to A &E and was more confused for a
few days till antibiotics kicked in). I work in a
hospital too and see that pattern with patients with
chest infections/pneumonia. Is he ok physically??
