After almost a year of being stable (as stable can be for a WKS
patient in a nursing home)my dad has all of the sudden slipped into a
deeply confused state. He has reverted back at least 35 years. He was
taken to the ER last Sunday and found to have slight pneumonia and
elevated calcium levels. If he doesn't snap out of this state, they
are sending him to a Behavior Hospital. So far this episode has lasted
at it's worst, a week. I spoke directly to dad's doctor on Thursday.
They just don't know what's happening. This is tough. My dad is in
Arizona and I'm in California. I remember others have had experience
with their WKS loved one and urinary tract infections. Have any of you
ever noticed a pattern with episodes? Since my dad was first diagnosed
with WKS, he has had a really bad episode every 18 months. When he was
put into the nursing home, I thought they would subside. I'm puzzled.
This also leaves me wondering when and if he comes out of this, will
he have to re-adjust to his surrounds all over again. When will it all
end?
