As someone with Wernicke's Encephalopathy and still driving, I would say that anyone with the disease who is any worse than I am (including those with Wernicke-Korsakoff) should NOT have a driver's license.  Let him sue them.  He will lose.  (Tell the examiners his condition and make sure they know the symptoms and your concerns.)  I honestly believe that my condition is borderline and if it was any worse than it already is, then I should lose my license too.  As it is, I have to constantly focus on my driving and ignore all distractions which is hard to do.  Even then I can briefly forget where I am going and drive past my turn more often than I'd care to admit.  So far I have been able to follow the driving laws and not get into wrecks.  So far I have not gotten myself lost, but I know that is a danger my daughter and I have to watch out for.  I do carry a cell phone with me at all times.  And for the most part, someone always knows where I am going.  It would probably be a good idea for me to make sure someone who is watching out for me always knows where I am going.

Had a review mtg with social worker today and he thinks it would be a
great idea to pursue getting my dads driving license back, as my dad
keeps going on about it. He's deemed as 'lacking capacity' so is
under the court of protection (i'm the court appointed
reciever/deputy) and had his license revoked 3 years ago.
I have MAJOR concerns about this and even if I take out the issue of
alcohol (he still drinks), financial (not enough money to run a car),
insurance (who would insure him?)I'm still left with the short term
memory defecit, lack of insight into memory/condition, decreased
concentration and attention problem. I'm assuming that he would be
treated as a brain injury under the DVLA rules with cognitive
impairment and so would have to go to a regional driving assessment
centre. If he passes then I obv have the concerns as above but if he
fails (and I'm hoping for his safety and the safety of everyone on
the road that he does fail)I'll have the 'fall out' from that. When
the SW asked him today what he would do if they said that he couldn't
have it back he said he would sue them!!
Does anyone have any experience of having to go through this or a
similar experience and does anyone u care for still drive/gone back
to driving?? I'm so worried about it and don't know what to do,
