Re: [wernicke_korsakoff_syndrome] Today

Sherry:

It sounds like the test my mother took. She took it twice a year
apart. I sat in for part of it. It's alot of memory stuff so they can
measure the degree of loss, etc. I don't think it rates IQ but it does
rate your thinking capabilities, attention span, etc. For instance
they said she was quite normal intellegence wise but had significate
short term memory loss and attention span issues. Her long term memory
was also intact. She took them twice so that we could confirm the
Korsakoff's diagnosis over Alzhiemers. Since she had no progression of
loss over a year's time they were able to confirm. I would be curious
to have her tested again since she has had such improvement such as
yourself. Well, I don't think she'd be memorizing scripts but she can
play bridge successfully so that's something. Anyway, good luck with
the test and thanks for sharing your encouraging recovery! Take care,
Kathy

Hi,

It's me again.

Today I have a testing session with a Dr. I've never met before. Or
else I may have met him when I was in the hospital, but don't
remember him. He's a neuropsychologist.

This is going to be a long afternoon. I go meet him at 12:45 and
then go test, then meet him again at 4:00. Whew.

I don't really know what tests I will be doing. I'm kind of scared.
Part of the reason I'm doing it is my husband thinks it's important.
He wants my medical records to show my current state. He's afraid if
I got sick or something and doctors saw my medical records from when
I was in the hospital, they wouldn't treat me properly. As in, they
would see my IQ as 55, I think it was. You all know that's not true
anymore, or I wouldn't be typing. LOL

So I'm pretty sure there will be an IQ test, but I don't know what
else.

Wish me luck!

Sherry
