Good evening everybody - Hope everyone is well. Let me preface this
post by saying I'm new to this disorder and I'm just now trying to
gather information so that I'm informed. My father was diagnosed by
his general practitioner today w/ stage 3-4 Alzheimer's. His
specifics - 64 - obvious to us(spouse/kids) memory loss, mild loss
of cognitive skills, gate is off, anxiety attacks ...
Bottom line all signs are pointing to Alzheimer's ... I've spent 4
to 5 hours tonight researching this disease when I came across
misdiagnosis of Alzheimer's for what would be WKS. My father has
been an alcoholic for 30 years - the last 10 years I would consider
it serious/extreme (i know that's an oxymoron). As I've read
through and compared the symptoms of both Alzheimer's and WKS - I'm
noticing some similarities -
That said, has anyone here OR a loved one been misdiagnosed with
Alzheimer's which later lead to being diagnosed w/ WKS? What were
the differences in symptoms that lead your doctor/you to believe it
to be WKS. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
