Hi Ann,
I gree with you about it being unacceptable that they
let your dad smoke 300 cigars in three days. I can't
even imagine how he could have smoked so many. My dads
nicotine intake is going up rapidly too, but only to
about 40 cigarettes a day. I have a different problem
though. I give my dad an allowance each week to spend
on what he likes (always spent on cigerettes)I tried
giving it to the staff so that they could monitor how
he spends it so he has some left for the end of the
week. That didn't work as they just gave him all the
money in one go. Now he hides his money after a couple
of days loses it and then borrows money from the staff
to go to the shop across the road (which he can do
himself) so when I go in at the weekend I'm paying the
staff back and giving a new allowance which is proving
costly! Anyone else been in a similar situation?
They have also stopped him using the phone (he only
speaks to me and more often than not I phone him
everyday). On Sunday night they wouldn't let him use
the phone after I visited to make sure I had got home
(I live 90 miles away)so he went to the phone box
alone at 10pm in a distressed state across a main road
to phone me. They too want him out of the home and so
again it's back to searching for somewhere (he's only
been there for 3 months). It's hard, he hates it too,
so every time I phone or visit he is in tears. It was
his 56th Birthday last week and next week will be one
week year since his admission to hospital. Lets hope
the next 12 months are better....
