Since I have finally taken the time to post, I thought I'd add a
little about myself so you don't have to go all through the
archives. I found my mom on New years Day 2003 in an alcoholic
stupor after her phone had been busy for days. My dad died 4 years
previous to this and my mom got progressively more and more depressed
and used alcohol more and more. Its a long story. Her home was a mess
and she was dishevled. Brought her to ER. She had pneumonia, was
malnourished, etc. She was totally out of it mentally.
Confabulating up a storm which at times was all that got us through
it. After a month and a half of ICU care where she
almost died several times after intubation she was discharged to
nursing home for PT (she could no longer walk). Once she recovered I
moved her close to me in an assisted living facility which is very
nice. In short it was a miracle. I have two teenagers, 13 & 15,
husband, home and a job as a paralegal in Massachusetts USA. My two
brothers live out of state so I am the primary caregiver to my mom.
I can't even get them to call her although they have been helpful in
cleaning out the house. We all have alot of anger, sadness and mixed
emotions at this situation. I handle all her financial affairs as
well and just finally sold her house last month. Now we are working
on the car. This group has been a godsend in understanding this
disease particularly in the beginning. Got to go as my 15 year old
daughter is distraught that I have been on the computer so long. She
is leaving for soccer camp this morning and must im all her friends.
A goaltender! Happy Fourth to the Americans in the Group. Take
Care, Kathy
