SOUND BALANCING
ACCESSING THE POWER OF THE VOICE FOR HEALTH
AND WELL BEING – ( one weekend a month, 10
months, beginning January 2008) with
JOE TORNABENE
Joe Tornabene is completely unique. 34 years in the performing
arts, 17 years exploring sound therapeutically, he has created a synthesis of
the energetic aspects of the performing arts, and the therapeutic arts that is
unequalled in Europe.
An essential, in-depth integration developing a new
and powerfully personal relationship to the human energy body. Concrete. Grounded in the real vibratory
experience of sound energy. Very real techniques for
very real exploration and growth. An awareness journey
into the ever changing qualities of the subtle states of our being.
Instruction: sound sensitivity and perception; toning
techniques: including vowel toning, harmonics, chakra balancing, placement of
sound in the body, and simple fluid movements which deepen the toning
experience; techniques for widening vocal color and expressive parameters,
linked to the imagination and intuition; strategies for pain management and
alleviation through placement of sound in the body; heightened awareness of
energy flow and quality; Body-based psychological explorations; Experiential
Anatomy explorations to develop a deep relationship with how the Mind expresses
through the different body systems -- introduction to sounding through the
qualities of the body systems (bones, muscles, skin, fluids); tuning fork
practice – Sonic attunement of the body; the changing of the nervous
system frequency; proper use of breath for the creation of a rich vocal sound
and deep relaxation; etc….
Theatricals include: Intra-psychic characters:
embodiment of energy quality for the development of an intuitive relationship
with the human energy body; Single State work; Laban
Effort Theory Language to explore dynamics of opposition; Imagined
sound—sound developed in the imagination which assists in nurturing
energy flow and physical enlargement; the through-line of energy, the quality
of the energy, its transformations and rhythmic dynamics; body observation
techniques; etc….
Award-winning sound artist, saxophonist, stage and
film actor, Joe Tornabene has been performing, composing, sound designing and
exploring performance practice for music, dance and theatre for 34 years. He
has been researching the dynamics and creative possibilities of improvisation
and performance in multimedia contexts in the USA
and Europe. Joe was nominated for the Best
Supporting Actor Award at the 46th Thessaloniki International Film
Festival 2005 for his role in Kyriakos Katzourakis’ film, Sweet Memory. He has taught
experiential workshops concerned with the relationships of the Body/Mind,
movement, music, sound, and improvisation in 10 countries. He currently lives
in Athens where
he directs and performs in multimedia contexts.
