I take a type share meeting in the sister group, Unofficial Nicotine Anonymous,
at 12:30pm EST on a Tuesday in a Yahoo Messenger meeting room. My Yahoo id is
kimfikry and I'd be happy to have you come into the meeting. This is an open
topic, Nicotine Anonymous 12 Step meeting conducted by typing rather than
speaking.

To attend the meeting, please follow these simple steps:-

dont know whats going on lately....but the last couple of weeks, we
have had, a large number of unsolicited e-mail contributions, (in a
word spam)... in a way thats becuase of the membership size, and
shows we are attracting some attention on the web.. well shucks folks
its attention we dont need..

want to thank members of the group, for accepting this in stride..
it really isnt too hard to delete unopened, when it does hit your
mail box... and thank you very much for handling it in this manner,
without comment... its particularly troubling when somone responds
back to the board with a comment, this simply reposts the message
along with your comment...causing the moderators to make yet another
decision (i for one deplore deleting members comments)... your wisdom
is appreciated. .

as most of you know, when you join, or actually any time you wish,
you can change, your mail delivery option.... because i need to keep
up on whats posted, i subscribe to option of each post.. however
those choosing the daily summary may not find the message, as an
admin may have deleted it, before the daily summary was sent.. and if
you get your messages of the web only (the homepage), you may be
blissfully unware of the posts, as they are removed, as soon as a
moderator finds them..

early in the history of V.O.N.R. the decision was made that we
would not pre approve posts... it is possible for the group owner to
configure the group, such that all mail must be approved.. we have
rejected this option, as its simply too time consuming, and a real
inconvience to the honest post (well over 99%).. imagine needing
help, or announcing that the room was open, and having to wait
several hours, before a moderator could approve that meessage..

instead we have the policy of deleting spam when it is found...
most of you, dont know how we process this stuff... first of all this
spam occurs, becuase someone actually joins the group to post.. so
when they do actually execute the post, thats only part of the
process..

when we find spam, the first thing we do is remove the member, (they
come back under another name)... next we delete the spam from the
messages... and finally i always post that the spam is deleted, this
is a flag to other moderators, that the spam has been dealt with, so
they dont go looking for a nonexistant message..

thought i would honor some of our often overlooked folks in a
hippyspam.. aint much, but wanted to let you know, the group
appreciates the hardest little job, of the meeting...the job of
greeting folks as they arrive into the meeting..

as your im sure aware by now, the greeter can be of tremendous help to
those chairing the meeeting... often folks will come into the meeting
environment, with little, or no understanding, of our rules of quiet
and courtousy.. paltalk in general, and indeed the chat
environment has little if any structure.. this makes the job of
greeter, not only a mater of courtousy, indeed, it often makes the
difference, between chaos, and a great meeting.... thank you for all
who have helped over the years... the group is better for your
unending
attention..

for those who have never greeted before, i would like to invite you to
help, its the kind of job one does not need the administrat ive "hat"
for.... its a chance to do service work at a very effective level,
without commiting to the chairing or co-chairing meeting.. and is
esssential to the group..

if you have never greeted before.. check out the files section for the
group... our dear servent aimee has created a file, and a word
document for the use of the greeter.. while it is possible to copy
from the files, and paste directlty from the file section, to
paltalk, i have found it much easier, to copy the contents to a
wordpad file, and pull that up for the meeting..

over the years i have added the 7th step announcments, the
disclaimers, and in short anything used in the meetings to my greeters
file.. and often keep it open in the background just awnsering
newcomers questions..

when im greeting, i simply copy and paste, a welcome, to any i dont
know.. if nessesary, i will use the entry to remind them, to raise
hand, to share.. i have found that re fering newcomers to the yahoo
site is often appreciated, and that they will in fact appreciate the
giudance to the calandar..

cards to anybody who wants them... they simply say "online meetings 7
days a week", along with our url.... to date ive sent out over 2500
of them, and will placing an order soon for more...

im sending these cards out, about 30 at a time. to any members who
might need them, to help spread the word (if you need more let me
know)... members have given these cards out at f2f meeetings, as well
as smoking cessation clinics, and health care providers... in short
anybody who may be intrested..

i will be happy to send some to anybody who needs them.. just drop

mail address, and i will send them out, please be advised your
address will be held in confidence..

a number of members have offered to send money to cover expenses,
please dont worry, as the cost is minimal, and i look at any expenses
involved as part of my 7th tradition commitment.. besides each order
postage included, is less than the cost of pack of cigarettes..

also there is in the files section, a number of flyers, for both f2f
meetings, as well as flyers specific to this group, (flyers for nica
meetings) that can be printed on your computer, and can be used
along with the cards, to spread the word.. feel free to use this

Hi Lauren. yes you can get a sponsor while you are still smoking
. the only requirement to be a member is the desire to stop useing nicotine. It
is important to go to the meetings as often as possible to give you a chance to
know the members then make a choice of who you want to be your sponser.Bye!
