Folks - Below is a link to a new OSERS adult vocational rehab. circular re
Specific Learning Disabilities. It goes into how sld's and every single
possible associated disorder, dysfunction and disability can impede post-school
functioning.

OSERS VOC. REHAB. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CIRCULAR, JAN. 10, 2005:
Guidelines for Assessing the Functional Capacities of an Individual with
Specific Learning Disabilities to Determine Significance of Disability for Order
of Selection Purposes
It is short, sweet and to the point. It is the BEST resource for sped
advocates and attorneys I've ever read on specific learning disabilities.
You can use this extremely effectively with IEP Teams who insist that kids
with specific learning disabilities:
a. Don't have sld's and shouldn't be classified 'cause they're just "bad"
and not motivated;
b. Don't have other, associated problems which are part of, or associated
with, the sld disability and must be addressed in an IEP, including
emotional/behavioral problems, organization problems, interpersonal problems and
. . .
you name it!
You can surely use it to get IEP Teams to put things in transition plans
which they don't want to include. It shows how all the manifestations of sld's
and associated disorders, dysfunctions and disabilities can impede adult
functioning.
You can use it in hearings as official USDOE guidance.
This piece is so good and so official that I can only beg you all to read
every word of it, print it out, and carry it somewhere near to your heart at all
times.
