Janice:
Keep track of all the time missed. Your son's entitled to compensatory
services for that time.
As for a "reasonable" time to allow them to hire someone, that's a loaded
question. Why can't another SLP fill in? Why can't the County's supervisor
of SLP's fill in? I'd send a letter in to the IEP Chairperson, noting your
concern re: no SLP and offering to obtain the # of hours of SLP stated in
the IEP with a private therapist and the school system paying for it. That
way you've (a) documented that they don't have personnel in place, and (b)
you're offering a remedy.
Hope this helps.

Voices,
Do you have any idea regarding the IDEA Law what happens if the school
looses its Speech Teacher? We have recently lost ours and school has just
begun. They say they are trying to hire someone this week, but I can't see
how that can be done so quickly. Meanwhile my son who has a diagnosis of
Expressive Receptive Language disorder will not have speech at school. He
has been going to speech 2 times per week during the summer (private). Do
you know how long I should give them to hire someone before I need to say
something??
Thank you,
Janice Davis
