Description
Vasa previa is a rarely (1:2500) reported condition in which a fetal blood vessel from the placenta or umbilical cord crosses the entrance to the birth canal, beneath the baby.
The condition has a high fetal mortality rate due to fetal exsanguination resulting from fetal vessels tearing when the membranes rupture or because the vessels become pinched off as they are compressed between the baby and the walls of the birth canal.
This yahoogroup is set up for parents who have or had vasa previa during their pregnancy. Some of the parents of the group have lost their babies; some of them were lucky because their babies could have been rescued. Others have vasa previa and are currently still expecting.
The group has many amazing and knowledgable members and is willing to take action on making this condition widely known.
There is a free newsletter available which covers all the activities and achievements of the International Vasa Previa Foundation. Please be certain to subscribe at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IVPF
