I guess it would be easiest for me to copy and paste some of what I
typed for my doctors. I have a diagnosed phobia of two certain actors
(no joke unfortunetly).
I've been suffering from this condition for almost 12 years now(I'm
19 just to let you all know). I'm getting to the point where I can't
take it anymore, and I don't know what to do. I started watching a
TV show(I don't feel comfortable putting what show at this point)
when I was 8. From the very FIRST time I saw two of the actors(the
main actors), I was terrified of the way they looked. Even though I
was so scared for some reason I could not stop watching the show.
Every episode I watched caused me to have an increased heart rate,
and I would start sweating buckets, I also of course had a feeling of
fear. I didn't start having full blown panics(sweating, crying,
increased heart rate, feeling like I was going to pass out, chest
pressure, full blown terror) until a couple of months after the show
went off of the air. I still suffer from panic attacks whenever I see
or hear of these two actors(or the show). I'm so bad I have to check
movie cast lists on IMDB before I go see any movie. I HAVE to see the
opening credits for TV shows to make sure neither of them or someone
else from the show is guest starring on what I'm watching. I can't
work anywhere that I could come into contact with magazines, a TV, or
the radio(songs that were played on the show make me flash back to
certain episodes, I'm also very scared that I will hear celebrity
gossip about one of them.). At times I flash back PTSD style to
certain episodes(with no music trigger), I have no control over this,
and it's happening so often that I've considered suicide(although
I've never developed a plan). The past 6 months have been a nightmare
for me. The really odd thing about this all, is it's not just the two
above mentioned actors. I'm scared of the way 5 other actors look as
well. I was scared of one of the other 5 actors BEFORE I was scared
of the two actors from the show. I have sought professional help, but
my psychologist has no idea what could be causing this. I'm beginning
to wonder if maybe the part of my brain that controls fear could be
going hay wire. That's the only logical explanation I can come up
with. I've seen several psychiatrists and only one of them has
believed me(and she barely believes me at that). My psychologist
takes me seriously but I'm way out of his league and he doesn't know
how to properly help me. I'm sure this is way more info then you all
needed to know, but I needed to vent.
I don't have the wrist phobia, but my phobia is also so unusual that
people try to scare me with it. I'm scared of sloths, as in the three-
toed marsupials that live in south america and hang from trees and move
so slowly that moss grows on them. I don't know if people think I'm
kidding or making it up to try to get attention or what, but they will
find pictures of sloths and show them to me, or send me videos on
myspace. They don't understand that when I see them, I get physically
sick and hyperventilate, among other panic-attack type things. I know
that the object of my phobia isn't as easilly accessible as your
wrists, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only ones
who have an unusual phobia that people try to take advantage of or
tease you about. And for the record, if either of you told me that you
were afraid of wrists, my first reaction would be to cover mine up
right away because I know how debilitating these phobias can be.
Hi,
i just started researching my phobia because i was wondering if it
had a name or if it was just me and im crazy paranoid. well ive read
a couple of other peoples posts and i figure im not the only one.
your story sounded really similar to mine (except for the toothpick
thing)
ever since i was little i was scared of something happening to my
wrists. i have no idea why but it makes me sick to think about all
the things that could go wrong if you just stick your arm out of the
car or lay down with your wrists facing upwards. the under part is
the only thing that scares me. What you said about the people that
show you there wrists is so common for me.
When i told my friend Jessica about my phobia she showed me her wrist
and was like "Aubri, come on whats so freaky about this?" then she
was like touching it. (she is a really good friend she just didnt no
what she was doing to me)
i felt immedietly faint, but she still didnt get it. then when i was
like wisper yelling at her my other friends asked what was going on
(it was a lunch time in the cafateria) so she tells them (witch kinda
made me mad cause i dont usually tell people about it cause....well
you know) then they start pushing up there sleaves and extending the
wrists (underside up) to me and i started freaking out and bending my
wrists inward, hiding my face and yelling at them to stop.
well of course they think its funny (not a joke, they were laughing
at me) so they keep doing it and start doing other stuff (i think you
get the idea so im not gonna go through the anxiety of explaining it)
so finaly when my eyes get all watery and i was all light headed
ready to pass out, they saw my face and stopped. Jessica said sorry
after she saw that i could barely walk with out leaning against the
wall (we had to go to class, and of course with my luck i had health
next where my jerk teacher LOVES to show body diagrams)
well i dont no of any way to make it better other that finding wrist
bands (i dont have a really big problem with whereing bracelets or
anything like that most of the time) ive tryed looking away but it
feels like peopls wrists draw my eye like a magnet. i am ALWAYS
wereing a jacket (not sure if thats another phobia) but i just find
that i feel alot safer wearing lairs.
sorry if i made this to long but ive never actualy examined my phobia
before. i dont no if anything ive said really makes sense or helps
you but i wanna thank you for posting cause yours did help me.

i am very afraid of the undersides of my (and other peoples) wrists.
it has gotten worse lately and all i can think to do is cover them up
with my jacket (witch i am ALWAYS were when i leave the house, no
sure if thats another phobia.) or where bracelets. it doesnt bother
me much to where jewlry on my arms as long as its lose (unless its a
wrist band then i dont want it to me lose) ive tryed whereing watches
but it bands freak me out because there either to tight or lose
enought to move around and turn so that the clock is facing down. im
not sure where my phobia actually came from. I think it is becasue
wrists seems to show veins and it looks very sensitve. when i was
little i had dreams that my wrist were cut or something that results
in damage to my wrists. i dont tell alot of people about my phobia
becasue they always show me there wrists and put it in my face ect.
so i stopped telling people (except my really good friends, thought
they dont have a very different reaction but i have to make them
understand how seriouse it is to me so that they dont tease me, that
doesnt always work)
i get very light headed when i think about wrists and i have an
automatic reaction. whenever i feel unsafe or anxiouse i curl my
wrists inward and fold them either under my arms pressed into my body
or i pull down my sleaves and grab my wrists with my oposite hand so
they are both covered.
if you know anything that can help me or just wanna talk to me about
my phobia (or yours) just reply to this post.
I had an extreme fear of my stomach growling in school or anyplace
quiet. I have gotten better, but still have to sit to the back of
wherever I am so I can leave if it happens.
It happened when I was in 3rd grade and a kid laughed. Ever since I
have had this irrational fear. Funny thing is, my stomach would make
more noise after I ate. A doctor told me it was because my stomach was
digesting.
Anyone else have this kind of fear?

Have you seen that movie with Jim Carrey? "the Truman Show". It's
about a guy who's life was basically being watched buy the whole
world from the time he was an infant until he was an adult. he was
the only one in the whole world who wasn't "in" on it. but he always
had a feeling of being watched. It sounds a lot like what you
described, but in his case it was really happening.
The first one seems to be a semi-rational fear, since it associates a
bad occurrence with a symbol of that event. The second thing though
sounds like, IIRC, a monothematic delusion.
Or it could be simple paranoia. Just remember that it doesn't mean
that they aren't out to get you.

I have an absolute phobia of sloths. I have no clue why. I know
they're not gonna hurt me or anything like that. I've never seen one
in person. If I see a picture of one or see one on TV it's instant
panic. I have tried to cure myself by prolonging exposure to pictures
and such, but I end up getting really nauseous and crying and it's just
too much stress for me to handle. It's the strangest phobia I've ever
heard of and I think some of my friends think I'm making it up to be
quirky or something. But just tonight I started searching the internet
for sloth phobias and I saw about three other people on various message
boards with the same fear! I had always thought I was the only one! I
also saw that it had already been submitted on the unusal phobias
website. It makes me feel better to know I'm not alone. Is there
anyone else on here who has a sloth phobia? Maybe we can talk about it
and try to figure it out!
Hey guys my company is looking for people who have severe phobias such
as scared of driving, etc. and want to do something about it for a non-

yes! It is called Trypophobia, and I totally have it! things like lotus
seed pods, honeycomb, wasp nests, and even the arrangement of seeds
inside a cantaloupe make me feel nausiated, and they make me toatlly
disgusted!
yes! I am totally disgusted and nausiated by clusters of
holes/eggs/seeds. Examples include amphibian and insect eggs, the
arrangement of seeds inside a cantaloupe, lotus seed pods, honey combs,
wasp nests, tripe, etc.
Apparently this is known as Trypophobia.
I'm always glad to see that I'm not alone! =]

No, I seriously have a friend that is terrified that geese will
randomly attack and kill her, and she's so normal, she's boring. people
tell/joke me about my phobia too(if people do that to you)-small

Where does this all come from...I have serious pyschological issues that I need to address. I must say I'm getting better b/c I'm 5 months pregnant and I'm forced to use the bathroom no matter what.. when I gotta go I gotta go. I'm trying to get over this ..it's taking some time but I believe I can get past it.

The thing about water in the toilet bowl being too low or too high freaks me out too!

Oh yes, you sound like me! Mainly the high tanks, or thats certainly where it all started. My parents tell me i have been like this for as long as they can remember, they even had to change a bathroom as a matter of priority when we moved as i wouldnt go in! When visiting somebodys house, my mum would have to excuse me as id run straight up their stairs to check the toilet! I cant even go into the cubicle with a high tank. It has progressed steadily through growing up and it's now:
- overflow pipes - air vents above my head (if they are to the side,
then this isnt as bad) - hidden tanks - or tanks at a different level - and now doors in toilets (if i know i cant get out if the door gets stuck)
I cant understand myself with this and i havnt given up trying to get over it all, but it all just gets too much. I feel like im burning up, going to pass out, i feel sick & i need get out straight away!

top of a science project I had made out of toothpicks and Styrofoam.

I actually have 2 friends who have this problem. One of them is so bad
you can not touch her neck at all, she tries not to even touch her
neck. For myself, I do not like people wrapping their arms around my
neck because I fear they will choke me. This goes for even the
smallest of loose wrapping of arms or even shirts with collars that go
too high and scarves. I am happy that you are able to wear carves even
with your phobia.

Firstly, it is normal for people seeing themselves as dominant to
cause suffering on those who have some sort of fault they dont have.
So the reaction to hide is perfectly normal, especially when coupled
with it's in our very genetic code as animals to survive.
Secondly, from multiple personal exeriences, lying to any kind of
counselor is starting things off on the wrong foot. Why are you going
if you can not confide in this person (unless they make you
uncomfortable, then you should find another one)? I wouldn't unload,
so to speak, on all of your "odd fears" but i would definitely bring
up the subject that you have odd fears and see what the person says,
if they want to pursue it, etc.

Oh yes, you sound like me! Mainly the high tanks, or thats certainly
where it all started.
My parents tell me i have been like this for as long as they can
remember, they even had to change a bathroom as a matter of priority
when we moved as i wouldnt go in! When visiting somebodys house, my
mum would have to excuse me as id run straight up their stairs to
check the toilet!
I cant even go into the cubicle with a high tank. It has progressed
steadily through growing up and it's now:
- overflow pipes
- air vents above my head (if they are to the side, then this isnt as bad)
- hidden tanks
- or tanks at a different level
- and now doors in toilets (if i know i cant get out if the door gets
stuck)
I cant understand myself with this and i havnt given up trying to get
over it all, but it all just gets too much.
I feel like im burning up, going to pass out, i feel sick & i need get
out straight away!
I to am glad other people have similar phobias and i now know im not
on my own!
Rebekah
i totally understand what you mean. all my childhood, my parents were
creepy people. and whenever i wasnt behaving theyd threaten to put
camaras in my room and all around the house. so they could watch me!
im not completely sure if they did that for real or not but im still
incredibly scared all the time especially in the bathroom

When I was little I was quite afraid of elevators. I remember once,
being terribly afraid, crying and refusing to go inside of the
elevator while on a family vacation. I really cannot remember what,
exactly I was afraid of back then. Now, most of the time, I don't
really fear riding in elevators, but I still do get an uneasy feeling
sometimes in certain elevators, particularly if they appear very old
and/or run down. The weird thing is that I have dreams/nightmares
quite often about riding in elevators that break and just start
falling rapidly toward the ground. Sometimes it feels like they are
spinning and tumbling, other times just dropping down and I always
know, in the dreams, that they will hit the ground and I will die.
Creepy. I hope that thinking about this doesn't cause me to have a
scary elevator dream tonight.
I have had these fears since I can remember and I have never found or
heard of anyone else understanding. I have this CONSTANT feeling of
having to cover my sternum/chest area. It's worse at night when Im
trying to sleep. I cant lay in any position where my chest it exposed
to where something could touch it. When I was younger I was afraid of
something stabbing my chest but now that Im older I just cant stand
the thought of anything touching it. It makes me queezy if I think
about it. Its mainly just my sternum. I have to cup my hand around my
sternum if I want to lay comfortably. I also have had the fear of
something slitting my wrists which gradually has gotten better. Also,
I CAN NOT stand for anyone or anything to touch my neck if Im thinking
about it. I dont mind something covering my neck such as a scarf, but
Im so scared of the front of my neck being cut or hit with something.
I hope SOMEONE has heard of this before.
I have this fear with dark circles they dont have to be in cluster but
just a dark empty circle can creep me out.Its just gives you this
feeling that theirs nothing you can do about it and your kind of
scared to see whats ahead
I have it too! i didnt realise so many people did. It turns my stomach
ughh!..jewelry is the worst for me but i dispise other metal things too
like keys...i couldnt bear to touch someone elses keys and i would
completely freak out if i was in a situation where i had to...other
stuff makes me crazy as well...like noisy eaters and bad table
manners... i've been know to walk over to strangers in eating places
and complained to the filthy person that they are ruining my meal!! lol
im normally very dignified but when it comes to this i lose my head
totally, my personality changes, its very stressfull for sure.
i definately wouldnt date a guy who had any jewlerly on YUCKKKKKK!!!
LOL!!

I have the same thing. Only metal jewelry affects me though. Also
buttons on jeans remind me of jewelry enough to make me freaked out. I
just want to throw up most of the time I see jewelry. The thought of
wearing it is very scary to me.
Now google cluster phobia and you'll feel much better yet!
I feel the same as lots of you. For the most part I've never mentioned
this phobia to anyone, because it was unreasonable and weird to me.
Then realized I'm not as nuts as I thought. It's a real phobia!
And it seems even stranger to me to have it, because I really don't
have any fear of anything else, even typical fears many people have.
I bookmarked some sites, so whenever I confuse someone trying to
explain, they can read testimonials and it sums it up perfectly!

I'm lucky, it doesn't affect my life. It just gives me the heebie
jeebies. Like the lotus seed pod photos.. a whole page of them staring
at me at once!!!?!? Talk about the creepy crawlies!
However if it does affect your life, I'd see a therapist about it.
Perhaps there is even a medication that can help.
Or mental exercises to lessen it's effects on you at least.
good luck!
