One of my biggest fears is empty waterslides and empty swimming
pools, even empty log flume rides. Just the thought of of a
waterpark when it is closed for the winter scares the hell out of
me. Now and again, I end up driving by an empty waterpark at night
and seeing the silhouettes of the waterslides rising up into the air
against night sky makes my skin crawl and my teeth itch. I have no
idea where this fear comes from. I have had no negative experiences
that I can remember with waterslides or pools, dry or wet. There is
just something horrific about the sight, or even just the thought of
a pool or waterslide drained and empty, dirty and stained and
abandoned. There used to be an old, broken enclosed tube style
waterslide I used to drive by occasionally, it was just broken off
about half way down, I always found that sight to be quite
terrifying. Sometimes I imagine the log flume ride at the local
amusement park when it is closed for the season, waterless and dry,
and it really freaks me out. Speaking of amusement parks, I am also
frightened of empty, closed or abandoned amusement parks,
particularly when things are looking a bit dilapidated and worn
down. I also have always had a fear of pool lights and drains (from
what I have read here, I am not alone on this one). I remember, as a
child, seeing the drains in pools, the kind that are on the sides of
the pool, near the water level ( I think they are drains, maybe
filters of some sort. It seems you don't see them so much now) and
finding them really scary. They are rectangle shaped and usually
have a flap door that flaps back and forth as the water moves in and
out, making an icky flapping sound. And I hate swimming in a pool at
night and looking into the water and seeing the pool light near my
feet....creepy! Anyway, I would love to know if there is anyone else
out there with a fear of empty waterslides in particular.
