I have that fear also, seeing a pool empty or looking into one at the deep end freaks me out.
I will not even go near a pool that is empty or dirty and abandoned.
I also do not like water over my head, I have a pool, but it is above ground and is only 4.5 feet deep, I am 5.4 so I am OK with it.
My biggest fear is drains, I hate to see them, be near them or touch them. All drains do this, whether it is in a house, sink, pool or a water drain for the streets, I cannot go near them.
I do not like water I cannot see in either, if I go to the  beach I cannot go out more than a few feet to get wet and I like seeing the bottom.....that is what prompted me to get a pool, I love water, but can't go in the gulf/ocean or lake area and swim.

I'm also afraid of water deeper than I am tall and swimming in water
where I can't see the bottom (like lakes) because I'm afraid something
will touch me that I can't see. Looking at pictures of shipwrecks also
scares me!
