Re: static electricty shock phobia

Erin, thanks. One useful coping method is to touch metal with a
housekey - Alot of times you'll see a fast blue zap (the key takes
the shock) and sometimes it makes a sound (most of the time it is
silent)

then you can touch the metal shock-free

Something to consider. It helps out quite a bit with metal.
Unfortunately you can't touch a person with a housekey - That would
be plain weird :)

They really do hurt sometimes. I used to get shocked EVERY time I
opened a door, touched a file cabinet handle or anything at work.
Sometimes, the shock was so loud that you could actually hear it.
Came to a point to where I would touch something with my elbow
first, to give my elbow the shock. Then grab it with my hand.
Seems like my elbow took the shocks better than my hand did.

before touching a metal doorknob, I punch my right fist into my left
palm twice and then i'll touch a wooden table or something non-
metallic, then i'll rapidly, violently grab the metal doorknob as my
whole body and mind tense up. It seems like when I touch metal
slowly that's when shocks happen, but if I grab rapidly & violently,
then shocks hardly happen. The mild ones are disturbing enough, but
the mega shocks that physically HURT - oh goodness! don't even go
there. they really do hurt sometimes. it would be interesting to
hear from others who share this with me
