Your balloon phobia isn't stupid! That actually reminds me of
Stephen King's "IT", if you've ever read the book or saw the movie.
Anyway "It" is an evil creature who can morph Itself into the kids'
worst fears. It most commonly appears as a clown, who uses balloons
to attract It's victims. "Would you like a balloon? They float!!!"
Do you fear clowns too? That's a common fear and I could see how a
balloon fear might be connected. My aunt is deathly afraid of
clowns. She never took my cousins to the circus, because of the
presence of clowns.

I'm scared of balloons, but only when they are flying free through
the air if they are on the floor or someone is holding them i like
em but if i see one on its own floating i am terrified, i need to
get indoors away from it quick!! It makes me think there is a
murderer or psycho out there and the balloon is his way of telling
me he's about to kill me!
