I am SO glad that I'm not the only one with a fear of cotton, I
genuinly believed I was as I haven't met anyone who is, as of yet...
so coming across this site was actually a bit of a relief!
My cotton phobia used to be slight, but it has escalated to the
point of sillyness recently.
Some people think I'm putting it on,when I really cannot help it but
when I talk about cotton to people, or see them touching it, my
tongue begins to feel really disgusting and my teeth and gums feel
weird, so I start talking stupidly as my tongue stiffens! it is
funny, I guess but it makes me feel sick and I shiver about it!
I cannot use cotton buds...I have to use tissue, which I still can't
stand, the feel of it is disgusting and makes my tongue stick out as
well, but it really isn't as bad as cotton. It;s the look, the feel,
thinking of other people touching it and the grotesque sound it
makes when you touch it or when one of your nails is broken and some
cotton attaches itself to your nail... thinking of any of those
things makes me shiver and feel sick.
I cannot stand cotton clothes either. When I put my socks on my
tongue sticks out and I have to handle them REALLY delicately... as
if I've just painted my nails. If someone else is putting their
socks on, it makes me feel sick and my tongue sticks out and I can't
talk properly. If they're rubbing their socks together with their
feet, or touching them, it has the same effect on me and I have to
ask them to stop. The most annoying thing is when people find out
about this phobia, they start touching their socks and pulling them
up as high as they'll go... eugh. I hate it when people rub cotton
clothing, aswell... so if I'm wearing a top with a funny feel to it,
my tongue sticks out if they rub it or brush past it. And the same
for when other people rub their clothing or brush their hand across
it.
It's really weird and I have no idea why I have this odd fear, but
I'd love to find out what in my life has caused this. I have
searched the internet endlessly to try and find a name for this
phobia, but I can't find one, so I think it should be called
vamvalkhiphobia (not spelt right but vamvalkhi is the greek word for
cotton... and it's typical to put a greek word in front of phobia,
seeing as the word phobia is greek).
If anyone else has a phobia, not just of cotton but of clothes made
out of cotton or containing it... please let me know!
