I received a letter the other day from Pelican Healthcare who
deliver my ostomy products to me detailing the following:
The government has recently issued a consultation document regarding
the supply of ostomy products. Within this document, there is a
proposal to radically review the way in which ostomy companies are
paid for the service and support they provide to us.
The document is seeking comments from all interested parties;
manufacturers; dispensers of the products etc, and ourselves, the
people who actually use the products.
It is likely that the government will make cutbacks which could make
it difficult for us to recieve the level of service we currently
enjoy, it may even result in smaller companies going out of
business. Essential services such as Free home delivery; pouch
cutting etc may cease to exist. I have been informed that there is
no immediate threat the the services, but if we don't let our
government know how essential these services are then that threat
might become real in the future.
We need to write to our local MP's with our opinions on this matter.
I have available a copy of the letter that Pelican has written up
that we can add our details to and any extra comments. These letters
need to either be posted to your local MP's or can be sent freepost
direct to Pelican, who are sorting them by areas and passing them on
to the MP's themselves. If you wish to help with this please send me
a private mail to hydra_101@... with your email address
and I shall forward you a copy of this letter for you to print.
Alternatively you can of course write your own letter and forward it
to your MP, but please don't ignore this, we need to fight for this
service so we don't lose it.
