US Journal Extols InfoMed, Cuba's Health & Medical Network
Havana, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) Prominent US scientific magazine Journal
of Medical Internet Research termed Cuba´s Data Transmission Network
and Health Website (INFOMED) a model to be followed to ingrate
information in health.
According to the article by Doctor of Science Ann C. Seror, who
teaches at the Canadian University of Laval, the INFOMED constitutes a
paradigm in handling medical information in assistance, research,
education and services.
She asserted the Cuban health system provides a parameter that shows
how a national website of health information can contribute to offer
services such as international exchange of products and health
services.
INFOMED is a network of persons and institutions to ensure the access
to information and knowledge to improve the health of Cubans and
citizens from other nations through the extensive and creative use of
information and communication technologies, she asserted on her
article "Case of Analysis on INFOMED: National Website and
Telecommunication Network of the Cuban Health Care System."
Seror said that network reaches out to 14 Cuban provinces and sends
emails to major data bases such as the US National Medicine Library
and an increasing number of medical magazines in and out of Cuba.
INFOMED trains and helps Latin American and Caribbean nations such as
Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela, where the Cuban medical system
constitutes a reference for the development of sustainable health
models.
Despite many political and economic challenges, noted Seror, Cuba has
developed a remarkable presence in international services of medical
assistance, especially in developing countries such as Latin America
and the Caribbean.
She highly praised the coherence of the INFOMED design and the
socialist ideological values of Cuban entities ranging from the ethics
of free access to medical care services to the attention of social and
environment health aspects.
The Journal of Medical Internet Research is considered the world´s
leading magazine on health and information and communication
technologies.
