The Daily Reflection today reminds us that we don't get cured from
alcoholism overnight .. in fact all we are promised is a daily
reprieve IF we work a program. Full recovery is contingent on a
positive spiritual condition. At first, I had no idea what a
spiritual condition was .. today I understand it to be a conscious
contact with a power greater than myself which helps me overcome any
challenge that life sends my way. It does not promise a resolution to
every problem, simply a courageous willingness to overcome
difficulties by doing the next right thing. As long as I
act "soberly", nothing is too large of a problem for me to handle -
fortunately, I do not need to trudge the path to happiness alone.
Length of time sober does not matter .. it's a one day at a time
program - today may be good for the newcomer but hard to cope with
for someone with many years. Fact is - working and living the steps
and principles of our 12-Step program make life manageable and we can
handle stuff sanely.

I have been working with 2 sponsees .. one who is putting forth a
wonderful effort and taking suggestions. The other I haven't heard
from in a week .. and haven't seen him at a meeting since he complete
his IOP - we'll keep praying for him. Last night at my Homegroup
another fellow asked me to be his Sponsor. ABSOLUTELY. I had the
privilege of presenting this guy with his 90 day piece a month ago -
his long distance sponsor suggested he find someone closer to home ..
so he asked me. I gave him his first assignment from the Big Book -
go to chapter 5 (How it Works) and search for the one word which he
plans to base his entire sobriety on going forward. Trick is no
matter what word he selects - he cracked open the book! It makes a
great starting point for us to begin working together.

Anyway, I hope you have a productive day at work, fun with with
family or whatever plans you may have .. just make it a great day!

Jonathan, Alcoholic from New Jersey
