This weekend we got about 1" of snow in New Jersey and we made it a
wonderful experience. It was great "packing" snow so we made a mini-
snowman and took a picture of it on my camera phone (my daughter
keeps asking to see it, LOL). We also stored some snow in a plastic
container and put it in the freezer, so when it's a real hot day in
July we can take the snow out and play with it ;) I share this
because these are the simple joys of life and family I can truly
appreciate in sobriety!
The Daily Reflections today is powerful - it speaks about accepting
our present circumstances, keeping a sense of humility, and not
turning small nothings into major problems. As I have shared here
frequently, the never-ending to-do list of household business often
stresses out my wife and I - we need to remember: "How important is
it?" The reading reminds me we should step back, accept stuff that
has to get done, and maybe even turn these chores and tasks into
gratitude - be thankful we have a house and responsibilities. We
cannot change the reactions or stresses other people try to place on
us ... for example: insurance companies, banks, the generally stupid
people that we need to call to get things accomplished. Serenity thru
Acceptance....
There is something else I need to share today. I successfully placed
one of my friends from "the rooms" in a job (I work as a head-hunter)
several months ago, but I had to terminate her assignment effective
this weekend due to a failed skill assessment test. I was able to
keep the conversation with her factual, honest, and matter-of-fact.
We both understood it was strictly business and it ended with a
simple "Thanks for the opportunity - see you at our meeting later
this week". Amazing with simple honesty can offer us thanks to
working a program of recovery!
Anyway, lots of emails and phone calls to respond to already this
week .. one thing at a time. I hope you also had an enjoyable
weekend ;)
