Hi LP,
You are not alone. I have three children (of which one is deceased) that have
an unbalanced chromosome translocation resulting in 1p36 deletion and 9q34
duplication. I have been hesitant to compare my children to others with 9q (I
know of two other translocations like ours) because my children seem to be more
affected by the chromosome 1p36 deletion.
My daughter Lauren is 12. My son Mathew is 4. My son Andrew would be 13, he
died at 3 months of age. Neither of my children have speech. Mathew understands
almost everthing at about a 2 yr old level but just can't form words. Lauren
is hearing impaired so speech is out of the question. She is functionally
about 1 yr old. Neither are potty trained. Lauren doesn't walk yet but
improves yearly. She is now walking with one hand assist. Both are in special
ed classes at there schools. Lauren in 6th grade, Mathew pre-k.
I hope this answers some questions you might have. But please remember my
children have more going on (with chromosomes) than your so there are bound to
be differences.
Email me anytime. I will try to be more involved in the group.
