It is my hope that this Group will serve as a means of support for those who have been affected by cancer. All are welcome and encouraged to share their hopes, fears, and common experiences.
A little about your Group moderator:
My life changed when I was first admitted to St. Vincent way back in January of 2003. I spent 5 weeks in the hospital being treated for a bacterial infection. It took close to a year before I felt "normal" again.
Eventually the doctors found out what the underlying problem was. I was pre-leukemic and diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome). I used various drugs to keep my blood counts up but each bone marrow biopsy showed I was headed toward AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). My only option was a bone marrow transplant. It seemed my best chance given the circumstances.
