TRANSFORMING HEALTH SYSTEMS is a forum for sharing ideas on health system issues by health and development professionals. Through series of activities we will share ideas on key lessons we have learnt from implementing the Partnership for Transforming Health Systems (PATHS) programme in Nigeria, one of technical assistance which aims to work in partnership with Nigerian Stakeholders to transform health services in Nigeria. It is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
The purpose of the PATHS programme is to improve the delivery & use of effective, replicable, affordable health services for the management of common health problems that affect poor people in Nigeria, measured in terms of progress towards the MDG's (Millennium Development Goals).
It is currently being implemented in four states -- Enugu, Jigawa, Kaduna and Kano -- with a number of stakeholders, and at federal level primarily with the Ministry of Health and its parastatals.
The Programme works toward delivering the following four outputs:
1. Strengthened government stewardship in health policy, planning and financing
2. Improved systems for effective management of health services in public and non-public state sectors
3. Better quality preventive and curative services established for common health problems and made more accessible to the poor
4. Consumers of health services aware of their entitlement to good quality, affordable health care and better able to prevent and manage priority health conditions themselves.
We bring you the success and challenges in implementing the PATHS programme. Thank you for joining us.
