Hey Guys,

Is brown rice ok to eat if one suffers from "hypERthyroidism"? It sure
is hard to stay away from that iodine.

Arigato!

dear lesley, i am a new member, having just been diagnosed with
hypothyroidism during last 4 weeks. i hope you dont mind me asking u
some questions cos I am desperate and feeling so sick on the
thyroxine the dr makes me take. i am also on other medications for
other complaints and wonder if all this is reacting. but i get
terrible panic and anxiety symptoms. i dont think its from the
thyroxine as i have had these all my life. i take something like
valium for this, called xanax, also another specialist years ago told
me i was ADD so I also take ritalin, and tramadol for migraine
headaches. can you tell me how i can speed up the thyroxine intake
or make things go back to normal? by taking more of the stuff, or
less? i dont trust my GP, but she wont refer me to a specialist, and
i am lost and out here on my own. i am a single mum, 53 years old,
on the pension and just wander about all day, not knowing what planet
I am on. if u can suggest anything to make me feel better or
positive, that would be great.
i have read about coconut oil improving the thyroid...what do u think
about all i have said. Or, if u are no longer involved in this reply
service, let me know. cheers Glendy. Perth, W.Australia. email
address is glendy@...

Dear all,

I am new to this list. I am 28 years-old and have been on synthroid
since I was 12. Has anyone out there had experience in healing their
hypothyroidism?

Blessings,

To all of you suffering from Hyperthyroid disease. Do not have
radiation treatment!!! Get the endo to give you PTU4 and take it as
needed. That is the only cure.

For an interesting article about iodine and it's many uses and history, please go to cayceconcepts.com.  It's a very informative site.  They guy's name is Phil Thomas.  You can order atomidine directly from him.  Hope this helps.  I just started it last wee and have noticed some improvement in my bodily functions.  I have been diagnosed with low thyroid too.

Did you discontinue taking the medicine in between the tests? If yes then that is the reason for the abnormal values as you need to take the thyroxine on a continued basis for life.

I understand 25 mcg of synthetic hormone equals a quarter grain of
natural thyroid extract. I am on 200 mcg so I understand this would be
2 grains of natural extract. One lady said I would need to take more
than two grains to maintain the levels I have on synthetic. Is this true?

I am taking 200 mcg of thyroxine yet still do not feel well. My
doctor has suggested that synthetic t4 only drugs need sufficient
amounts of iodine to work and that I may be deficient in iodine so he
has asked me to do a 24 urinary test.
He has prescribed 1.5 grains of natural thyroid ( or the equivalent of
150 mcg thyroxine ). He wants me to do the iodine deficiency test
before I change to natural thyroid extract, and if I am deficient in
iodine he wants me to take iodine with the natural extract.
Is there anyone else that is taking iodine with Armour or natural
thyroid extract for them to work properly?
Has anyone heard or read anything that you need sufficient iodine for
natural thyroid extract to work?
Has anyone read or heard about taking iodine supplements with natural
thyroid extract?
I assumed that natural thyroid extract gives the body everything it
needs if its in the right dose.
I am really wondering whether I should stay with this doctor or not.

is a natural tyroid that covers T1, T2, T3, T4.

there is a generic but i don't know if it covers all of the T's

anyone have information on this?

desicated tyroid is suppose to be much more stable and natural.

there is more to the tyroid then T3 and T4 most likely more to the
tyroid then T1 T2 T3 and T4.

doctors stoped learning about all the T's in school during and after
1975 i figure that is when the drug companies jumped in with their
hearts in the wrong place.

On the 10/January/05 my thyroid levels and lab ranges were :

TSH 11 L mU/L (0.1-5)
Free t4 6.9 pmol/L (9-25)
Free t3 2.6 pmol/L (3-5.5).

Of course these levels mean I was hypothyroid and I was on 125mcg
thyroxine (synthetic t4 only ). I was miserable , depressed tired,
lethargic, overweight and could not lose weight despite rigourous
exercise, a low GI diet and a moderate amount of fat and 3 tablespoons
of fibre per day ( which I always took one hour after taking the
thyroxine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning to ensure
maximum absorption. I was not and still don't take anything with the
throxine that interferes with the absorption of the thyroid hormone.
My doctor told me to boost my thyroxine to 200 mcg and one month later
I got tested and these are the most recent results:

TSH 0.03 L mU/L (0.1-5)
Free t4 13.9 pmol/L (9-25)
Free t3 4.4 pmol/L (3-5.5)

As you can see my t4 to t3 conversion is ok, my TSH is under 2 ( I
read that most people start to feel well once their TSH is under 2 and
I do realize that it is too low) and and my free t3 is almost in the
top third of the range ( I read that was what to aim for to feel my
best). The problem is, I feel no better than when my levels were at
those at the top of the page and I felt no difference when I increased
my dose. I am still miserable, tired, lethargic, depressed, overweight
and gaining yet I have not increased my food intake, and I am still
doing rigourous exercise and not losing weight.
My question is, if I feel like this with the levels at 200mcg of
synthetic hormone and my t4 to t3 conversion is ok, is it useless to
try natural thyroid extract?
My doc wreckons the synthetic may not be working because I may be
deficient in iodine and it needs sufficient iodine to work properly.
Any comments welcome, especially if it's worth trying natural extract
(which he has prescribed 1.5 grains as well ), but wants my TSH, free
t4 and free t3 levels as those most recent results were from
10/February/05.

I am taking 200 mcg thyroxine but it is not working well. My doctor
says it may be because I need sufficient iodine for the drug to work
well and I believe that. I want to try natural thyroid extract and
want to know does this need sufficient iodine to work as well? Is
there sufficient iodine in natural thyroid extract?

I am currently being treated for hypothyroidism with 200 mcg of
thyroxine and all my thyroid levels are optimal yet I do not feel any
better than the the time when I was taking 100 mcg of thyroxine and my
thyroid levels were outside the normal ranges.
I went to see a doctor who prescribes pigs thyroid and he suggested
that I may not be responding to the synthetic drug because I am iodine
deficient and has asked me to do a urinary iodine loading test. If I
am deficient he has suggested I combine iodine with the synthetic drug.
I would like to hear from other people who have been told that they
may not be responding to the synthetic drugs because of iodine
deficiency, and if they did improve by taking iodine.
I am also confused because I have seen conflicting reports about
whether iodine is good for someone who has hypothyroidism. I would
like to know other people's opinion on this.
By the way I am hypothyroid because I have had radioactive iodine
treatment for hyperthyroidism, so I am not worrried about going
hyperthyroid.

hi monica,
It sounds like you are still hyper and your heart is beating too fast. I
think you need to see a doctor who can test you again and give you an
informed opinion. I don't know how much that will cost, but I think your
life is worth the payment and if your heart and other organs work too
hard they will wear themselves out sooner than you wish.
I personally am on beta-blockers which are cheap to buy and have soved the
problem of a fast heart rate.
Try taking your pulse, if it is fast then this is the problem, but I think
anyone with a thyroid problem needs to seek medical advice.
I hope this helps.

Hey there Monica! I'm sorry I don't have any info for you on your
specific ailment. But I did want to welcome you here. I figure if
other members see increased activity here, they'll come back with some
good advice for everyone.

I myself was diagnosed with thyroid tumors. So its a different animal
altogether. But if I come across anything that might help, I'll
definitely post it here. Hang in there. :)

about 6 years ago my doctor found i had hypertyroid and then I ran out
of insurance so I haven't gotten tested in over 2 1/2 to 3 years and
was wondering if it was possible to become hypo if I have not taking
care of it? And also the last month or so I have been getting heart
palpitations really bad and seem to last all day and I can feel it
even more when I sit, I was thinking it could be High blood pressure
is it possible because it feels like it is tight and I have to cough
to make it feel better and it feel as though the blood rushes up to my
head then back down! I f any one has any answers or comments I would
really apperciate it! Thanks allot and I will be
