Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I live in the UK and it's much harder
to get information directly from doctors than it is in the USA. I have now
had my x-ray results though, the shadow is definitely there and the
radiologist thinks that it could be scar tissue from the rib removal
surgery. My doctor isn't 100% about this though and is referring me to a
chest clinic for more information. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long
to see someone.
In the meantime does anyone on here have scar tissue in their lung due to a
rib removal operation? I'm just wondering if this is a normal thing to have
happened or whether I might have something wrong with me.
Any info would be appreciated.

An M.D. who reads xrays would know why there was a shadow there.
I still don't understand why your M.D. said he...basically he
does not know would be my assumption. Ask to see your chart
and get the name of the M.D. who took the xray and call his
office. Your M.D. does not seem to know what it is.
