Re: [Thoracic Outlet Syndrome] Digest Number 238

Hi! I dont answer the messages too often, keyboarding
is taxing. To ans the ques. I had a left brachial
plexus release in 1990. It was done by James Hunter
in Thomas Jefferson Institute in Phila. Pa. He wrote
many books exclusively on the subject. I had good
luck with the procedure, but I dont have any staying
power, which I understand is a trade in leiu of
constant pain. I still have pain, but it is now
manageable and if I do nothing, it stops where before
it didnt. When i mean nothing I mean at night when I
sit and watch television, I dont have that constant
knawing in my neck. I still have flair ups, but they
dont last as long. I am glad I had the procedure done
and by now there should have been improvements on it.
In 1992, I had a left ulnar transposition and left
median release. They were done at the same time. It
was the most horrible experience of my life. From my
experience, Dr Hunter stopped doing both procedures at
the same time. The recovery was very slow and what he
said to me was the brain couldnt figure out what had
happened. The rehab for one nerve would irritate the
other one, it was like playing ping pong and I was the
ball. I was in college at the time and had to take an
extension because I lost complete control of my arm
for weeks. I should tell you, I am left handed. To
this day, I still have trouble writing and always
will. Its better than it was before the surgery. I
have a left radial entrapment which gives me problems,
but I think I'll be able to live with them, I hope. I
have three more classes to go to get my degree and I
hope to be able to find a job to fit this situation.
What surgery are planning to have done. I have read
many of your messages and I understand your problems.
