My Thoracic Outlet symptoms   Message List

Hi all.
My name is Glenn & I am a 34 year old tradesman. After a short visit
with my family doctor I have been informed that I may have TOS. Three
evenings of online research on my part has left me more confused & a
little worried. Perhaps someone with knoledge of this seamingly
somewhat rare conditions could help answer a few of my questions.

My symptoms are fairly minor compared to those of others I have read
about. They are as as follows:

1/ My hands almost always fall asleep if I try sleeping on my side.
Either side. So I mostly sleep on my back. I find this to be somewhat
of an annoyance & uncomfortable but it's not unmanageable.

2/ A bigger problem is having my hands fall asleep durring strenuous
exercise. This happens about 30% of the time when I & workout at the
gym or play racket ball etc. It will only occur when my heart rate
is up & has been for several minutes.

3/ My neck & shoulders are a
little sore now & then [very minor] & I mostly atribute this to my
line of work. [Auto mechanic] Otherwise I am pain free.

I am unsure if TOC is my ailment & unclear of what type of TOC I may
have.Is this a serious condition or one which can be easily treated
in most cases? Is damage being done while the condition continues on
untreated? I am told diagnosis is a long & uncertain process. My
doctor appears hesitant to move forward. Should I seek out a second
opinion?

Thanks for any advice,
Glenn.
