Re: [Thoracic Outlet Syndrome] Re: new here

I joined this site a few months ago when I was diagnosed with TOS. I know
there are many degrees of TOS so I'm not sure if this will be helpful to
everyone or not. Mine started when I was in the middle of triathlon
training in Jan of 08. I got out of the pool one day and my arms had pins
and needles, numbness and tingling. I thought it was just an injury so I
stopped swimming. Then after biking I had the same thing going on. Soon
after I was getting the pins and needles with almost everything I seemed to
do that had my arms outstretched. Pushing a stroller (I am also a mom of 4
kids under the age of 9), folding laundry, cooking, driving, computer work
etc....It was driving me insane. I went to 9 weeks of physical therapy and
that did not seem to make a difference at all. I was told I develped TOS
from and overuse injury. Anyway, I was soooo discouraged because I was
feeling worse all the time. How could I go on living like this? Someone
recommended a chiropractor. I tried one for 4 weeks with no results...I
thought it was such a waste of $. Well then one day I was getting a massage
that happended to be at a different chiropractic clinic . The chiro wanted
to meet with me for a consultation. When I saw him, he said he has seen
this problem a lot and can help me. I had huge doubts as you can imagine
but was also desperate and he seemed genuine. I was willing to risk the $
and time to see if it really could help me. WEll he does the "Pettibon"
method of chiropractors, it is an aggresive method to actually fix people.
I was first in for 4 times a week for 9 weeks and now I'm almost done my
treatments and after that it's just once a month. I did not notice an
immediate difference, it took many weeks and many many doubts if this would
actually work. I continued to have symtoms during the first few weeks of my
treatments. Then they started to slowly go away. I would have symptoms for
3 days and then 2 days I wouldn't then I'd have symptoms for 2 days and then
3 days I wouldn't. Then the gap kept getting smaller and smaller until I
had NO symptoms at all. Yes you heard me right, NO symptoms. I also did
have some massage therapy every 2 weeks to help with the muscle to relax. I
can't tell you enough how amazing I feel. I AM BACK TO NORMAL!!! I am
swimming, biking again and doing all the normal stuff with no pain, no pins
and needles etc....Honestly I am so amazed by my progress and very
excited. I am also able to see from my X-Rays of how badly my neck was
being pushed forward when I first went in. It was putting pressure on all
my nerves, causing all the TOS stuff. Now I can see from the X-rays how my
neck is back in it's normal position, taking the pressure off the nerves.
The Pettibon method also has some physical therapy involved such as head
weights, stretches, posture excercises, neck exercises at home that are
involved. They all play a part in the healing process. Now I do have a lot
of chiropractic bills but for my health it is worth it. I don't know if
this can help all TOS patients, but it sure did me! I had to share it if it
can help someone else. I am so thankful to God for answering my prayers and
leading me to the right person to heal me. I feel that Jesus is my ultimate
healer but HIS hand was leading me in all of this and for that I am so
grateful. All the praise to HIM first and foremost! Feel free to ask any
questions.

Sincerely,
Christine Willems
