I think most members would agree that the CCHR have done some excellent work.
They certainly seem very organised, disciplined and dedicated which are
qualities often lacking in psychiatric survivor organisations. Not all their
members are Scientologists and I don't believe any member of the CCHR is under
pressure to promote scientology. You could say that other religions should take
a leaf out of the Scientogists' book and speak out against the human rights
abuses that psychiatry is guilty of. Instead they seem content to bury their
heads in the sand and support a system that objectifies and harms people.
I think it would be an excellent development if psychiatric survivors and mental
'health' professionlas and others could organise a single organisation inclusive
of scientologists and members of the CCHR . Obviously certain aims and
objectives would have to be agreed upon.Critics of psychiatry face very
formidable oppostion. It is understandable why many people become despondant and
give up.
There is the World Network of users and survivors of psychiatry and the
similiarly named European network but their membership numbers seem quite slim.
There is clearly a need for a movement with a wider social and political
dimension if real change is to come about.
