The history of Church of Scientology intimidation tactics vs.

I don't want to litter the Szasz discussion group with claims and
counter-claims regarding Scientology.

Suffice it to say, as far as I know, Szasz had helped found the CCHR
when it appeared to take a strong stand against involuntary
commitment. But he seems to have distanced himself from the group,
and does not appear to have had much input on their public positions
regarding psychiatry or drug abuse.

At least one Narconon program takes court ordered referrals, which
is something that I believe Szasz would violently oppose:

Narconon had been able to convince various schools to implement its
drug abuse prevention programs, but have had some trouble in CA, as
the state is demanding scientific evaluations.

This is a sad state of affairs--not because I'm sorry to see
Narconon go. I'm not. What is a shame is that people see the
Narconon philosophy being rejected, which has some ideas that more
credible critics propose, and assume this proves "drug abuse" is
some sort of disease that only MD's or Ph.D's can treat.

The enemy of your enemy isn't always your friend, Neither Narconon
nor the Church of Scientology have anything to offer someone who
rationally rejects the theory and practice of modern psychiatry.
